For all the engineers out there, be a little more realistic and use annual salary/3500. This will account for all the screwage you get thanks to no overtime pay but expected overtime work.

Quoted for Mother Fucking Truth!!!

(oh, and it really pisses me off when I'm being "sold" for time and materials and only receive my normal 40 hours per week, even if I work 75 for which the company gets paid for the full 75. Sounds fair?!?! :whiste: )

$11.37/hour

pro-tip: don't go to law school.

You're still making $1.12 more than I am. Pro tip 2: Don't go to journalism school. Pro tip 3: Don't live in Ontario unless you want to a) work part time for peanuts or b) be unemployed.

Teachers and profs have it pretty awesome for holidays, no doubt. That would require several more years of school though, I don't know :hmm:.

I know there are tonnes of problems with being a teacher, but I have to say I wish I would have done something like this; talked about it with my ex-Father in law several times too (he was a teacher for 30+ years). I know you can make >100K up here if you get your Masters in education. For 8 months of work, that's pretty amazing and would allow me to travel and do other things with the time off.

My fucking day is 9 hours with about 30 minutes of commute each way = 10 hours (after 1 hour mandatory lunch and driving time)! :|

Not to mention all the bullshit free hours from being salary.

<----- Looking for new job. Might make a few phone calls on Thursday/Friday...my first day off in the last 18 days.

I'm salary and work 5-6 12 hour days per week with a 1 hour and 5 minute commute each way. Cry in the corner, not here.

Uh, that's the standard hours. That's not how many I actually work. I just ran through the last 17 days (weekends included) with 4 - 15 hour+ days on top of many 10-12+ hour days. Maybe you can come over and cry in my corner with me.:colbert:

Sounds like you need to get a better contract with your company. Don't get screwed like that.

no, I am just saying that there a lot of engineers that get overtime. No need to factor anything in when calculating how much you make per hour.

And those engineers are the exception. At least for EEs I probably only know 1 out of hundreds of engineers that I know that could get overtime pay.

$32.50

O-2 Officer with three years in.
Deployment kind of bumps those hours up a bit though :(

Well....I am 1 of hundreds because I am an EE.

I consider you to be lucky, because many engineers that used to get overtime stopped getting it when the economy dropped starting 2007/2008.

I felt like shit at a job site this past weekend because I was the only stupid one there working and not getting paid, including the client company's engineers. Yes, I'm looking (sent resume out to a word of mouth job today).

I told you. Go for a a civil consulting firm. yeah, the job is kind of boring, but it is the same work and you will get overtime. Since you can do PLC programming, you will be well wanted. Most consulting firms have to pay overtime. It's how they keep track of their time.

I get 3 weeks vacation and we have 11 paid holidays, so I figured 1855 hours for the year.

Taking those into account, I figured $47.40
If I add my commute time to my total hours worked, it drops to $39.
