how much do you make per hour? use this equation

Going by the OP's equation: $19.

Since I work 37.5 hours per week with 26 days off (including paid holidays), I only work 1755 hours per year, which makes my hourly wage $21.65.

This is at a new job offer that I just accepted today. In two years, I should be promoted to the programmer II position and get about a $5k raise.

I don't think it's too bad considering the cost of living around here. i.e. my house payment is $831/month including taxes and insurance for a nice 1700 sq. ft. house on an acre. I also have a nice 30-minute round-trip commute.

Using OP's equation 53.125. I work a lot of 'free' overtime and get 4 weeks vacation. Commute is a ~20 minute walk each way.

Let's trade! You're sick of downtown and I want to be downtown! You should find the relaxed pace of life in Burnaby to be soothing and relaxing :awe:.

😀 I was at the IHOP in Brentwood last weekend and it was pretty nice, maybe I could just get a job there. :hmm:

$34.4

that is counting 23 vacation days + holidays.

I think /2000 is pretty good for salary, since most americans get 2 weeks PTO. 40 hrs a week * 52 weeks = 2080 - (2 weeks * 40) = 2000

Mines in the low 20s. Sometimes, I do work a bit less though.

Schweet. Where do I submit my resume? 🙂😛

The pay's not as good as Keith makes but my father teaches at a local college and makes around 90-100k/yr now (he's been there about 20 years, didn't start that high). He gets about 4 1/2 MONTHS holiday during the summer. Technically he's supposed to go in during the summer for faculty stuff but rarely if ever does. 😀

Teachers and profs have it pretty awesome for holidays, no doubt. That would require several more years of school though, I don't know :hmm:.

my first job was $10
my 2nd job was at the library. it was a pathetic $8.58 or something. people got a raise to $10 6 months later by protesting.
my 3rd job (internship) paid $24
i left my current job getting $34

i am now unemployed.

For all the engineers out there, be a little more realistic and use annual salary/3500. This will account for all the screwage you get thanks to no overtime pay but expected overtime work.

depends where you work. for my cisco friends, they should use /1500 😀 jkjk. some of them are seriously slackers. i have friends who say "well I get in at 9, so I should leave at 5" when others (the ones who work at Google and Apple) ask "Why the hell do you leave so early?" I can name a few other friends at other companies who are ridiculous and work the 8 hr day and just GTFO on the dot. On the other hand I put in close to 10 hrs a day but that was with a good amount of surfing time in there 😀

Not all places are like that. I'm an engineer and get paid overtime if I go over 46 hr/week. That phases out though after you get up past $90k a year and I haven't gotten there yet. I only know of 1 guy in my department that works consistently more than 45 hr/week and that's just because he's nuts.
