$18750. dealer was asking $21000. I guess I made out all right, considering it was certified. I was able to get some interior trim issues taken care of under that warranty.

Would I include cumulation of the first 3 years of repairs? Because it was a lot. Purchase price was $5,500 for a '98 Dakota, repairs have been probably $5,000. Brakes, suspension, exhaust, ignition coil, water pump, a/c compressor, driver's side window, side mirrors, reseal rear window, ball joints, some piece of the steering column, currently has a freon leak somewhere, and probably something else I'm not thinking of. I'm gonna be driving the vehicle for another 150k miles just to recover the value out of it (currently at 78k miles)...

$450 cash.

I have only financed 1 car, about 4 years ago, and will never do it again. Being mechanically inclined has helped out so much.

Edit: After reading this thread, I guess I left out some details.

I drive an '89 Honda Prelude, with about 125 thousand miles on it. The front suspension and exhaust system need some work, but it great for a 450 dollar car. Oh, and the only thing I have replaced is the battery and cables, at $45 dollars, it was not too bad, been driving this car for 16 months now.

$4,200 on a 99 Saturn SC-1. Mint condition, and less than 100k miles. I like it a lot, probably will drive it into the ground.

£600 ~ $1200 with 83k miles on the clock. Now it has 105k miles but I haven't been drivng it m uch over the past 9months due to my new job.

Awesome buy. No problems at all 🙂

I paid $14,500 for my Saturn (new) in 2000. I have hard time justifying paying anything over 15K. Autos are a waste of money. Put it into your home or retirement.

What if your home is paid for and you're maxing out three retirement accounts (401k plus two Roth's) plus $400 per month into a brokerage account? Can I buy one over $15,000 now? 😉

My 2005 Dodge Ram's sticker was $32,000. I got it for $19,000 brand new.

My wife's 2007 Prius stickered at $25,900. We paid $22,400 for it. Approximately $900 under invoice.

Damn Wiz....I thought I would have one of the best deals on a Dodge. How did you get it for $13,000 off sticker?

$7500 in incentives plus employee discount 😉 Right now the same truck goes for $22,000 since they are only offering $2500 in rebates. I just built it using the Employee Purchase Build Tool

You work directly for Chrysler? If so, I can see it. My discounts were for an automotive supplier, not directly as an employee of the auto maker.

No, my father does. It's nice to have an in, though! 😛 I can get supplier discounts for most manufacturers, but usually they aren't that great.

No, because your children will suck it out of you then.
If you don't have kids, well then I guess you can ... and lucky 🙂
