I know buddy, it's really hard being a white guy these days. The injustice is hard to take. Sometimes I wonder if life is even worth living anymore.

You can always tell when the other person has won when you get non sensical responces like this.

NetWareHead...i award you eleventy billion dollars.

Nonsensical? The guy is complaining about how rough it is to say Aunt Jemima and banana pudding. I'll take a misunderstanding any day over being treated like a second class citizen.

Dank69 vs. P&N. I wonder who's on the wrong side?

There's probably a grand total of about ten people arguing with me. One of them is michal1980. That should be a warning sign to you that you are dead-fucking-wrong but whatever.

No, he is showing how people look for racism when none is present. They want to be offended like little bitches they are.

I never disputed that point. It also doesn't refute mine, but it comes off as extremely whiny in the grand scheme of things.

Lol I never said you personally treated anyone as a second class citizen. What is wrong with you?

Then who the fuck is the second class citizen in your response? The poor elderly black lady who felt slighted by my syrup selection? She only shut up when I showed her the bottle I pulled from the shelf. I guess I have to switch to Miss Butterworth syrup, God forbid any blacks are around to witness my next aunt jemima purchase. Im trying to highlight how fucking ridiculous this really is. My example showed how surprisingly easy it is to step in on a racism landmine.

I'm saying your complaint about these misunderstandings is pathetic compared to black people's legitimate complaint that they are often treated as second-class citizens. Was my original post really that cryptic?

And I have my own damned problems. We all do. If racism was my complaint, Im not going to project along the scale seen here and find racism in seemingly every nook and cranny and assign blame where none exists. Thats not the way to solve a racism problem. And again we are back to what it means to dilute racism with bullshit racism claims that do nothing to solve this problem and honestly make it out to be a big joke instead.

Look, let me start by saying I agree the people in your examples were out of line. However, I think it is irrational to pretend the list in the OP is on the same level as that nonsense.

He baited you into a real strawman.

"Here is some ridiculous claim that has nothing to do with the original comments."

I didn't ask you if ghetto could be used to insult someone who is ready and willing to be insulted. I asked you if ghetto could be used to insult any black person.
Just to be perfectly clear, whenever I say "any person" that includes black people. (Black people really are people. They can interbreed with other people without sterile offspring. We had a war about it, Supreme Court decisions about it. You can look it up. It was kind of a big deal, albeit before you were born.) Therefore "ghetto" could be used to insult a black person* who is ready and willing to be insulted, but not a black person who is not ready and willing to be insulted. Accusing, say, J.C. Watts of being "ghetto" would be no different than accusing him of being a 6' tall purple rabbit with ears made of celery, so I doubt he would be insulted. Aspiring black rappers might well be pleased. Other black people would react in many different ways.

* Since a black person by definition falls into the set of those qualified as "any person".

That's a lot of words used to dodge a simple question and pretend I am the one misunderstanding you. You need to drop the "who is ready and willing to be insulted" part because it is flat out nonsense. The word ghetto can absolutely be used to insult a black person who is not "ready and willing to be insulted." If you can't acknowledge this simple thing I will be happy to provide an example, you know, if you really want to continue to play the stupid part.

Ghetto is a racially charged term. Everyone knows this. Hell, it is even offensive to many Jewish people.

And how many Jews need to find it offensive before it's antisemitic in addition to racist?

You know what word is also really racially charged? "Racist." I'm not going to say if I think these sayings are racist or not (none of them are things I agree with or would say), instead I think it'd be more productive to frame them as things that could/often will be interpreted as racially insensitive and offensive. When you say someone's language is racist they will usually take that to mean you are calling them a racist, which is understood to mean "a very bad person." It's a highly emotionally charged word often used to signal to others that a person is bad/internally at fault and should be silenced.

If you simply tell someone their language is racist there's a good chance they'll feel something "well I'm not a racist and you don't understand where I'm coming from when I say this so I'm just going to ignore you." If you explain to them why their language could reasonably upset and offend other people instead of coming from a position that's entirely critical of the speaker there's a better chance they'll take you seriously.

Yes, you quoted where I said ghetto is a racially charged word. You did not quote where I said "we can no longer have words that describe bad things" because I never said that, nor did I imply it.

of course you implied it. You dont want peoples feelings hurt with words.

Comment 56

If everyone agrees then it doesn't need to be said, now does it? Further proving the point that people that ARE saying it are doing so simply because they want to and they know they can get away with it.

Any logical person would take what you said, and understand that you are advocating not using the term. The people getting "away with it" should be shamed for using it. The point of shame is so they do not get away with it which is to try and stop them through non legal channels.
