After going to college and learning the gory details about how a computer works, it has reinforced a few things.

1. I absolutely detest programming
2. Computer Architecture is awesome (e.g. hardware)
3. Networking is more interesting than ever now
4. Programming sucks
5. Software engineering is a fancy name for programing slave just like sanitation engineer is a fancy name for janitor.

Actually my interest in computers is constant, but my interest in networking has multiplied to overshadow the computing.
People who lose interest in computers are people who do the same damn IT job day in day out (I know, I'm one of them). Right now I'm trying to get picked up by a networking company so I can get out of IT and do some more engineering/design oriented work.

I'm sure people who code for a living feel the same way.

And as for my social life, I prefer to have a social life anytime I'm not doing work. I don't sit at home and play games in my free time, I actually go out and do stuff (like drink beer with friends!)

..depends what ya do for a living. I couldn't get away from em and expect to maintain my cash flow. And as far as a hobby..it's better then most and you don't have to leave em parked at the curb or in the garage or bring em in for a smog check. It's something I can do in the comfort of my home and it doesn't need a vet or a litter box. So count your blessings. :)

The computer is like watching pr0n. One minute I will be totally into it and the next minute I've completely lost interest.

Stop playing games, stop wasting time upgrading your computer and trying to tweak. A computer should be a vehicle for enrichening your life and/or helping you out with your profession. It's fine if the first things I've mentioned are a hobby, but if they're cutting away at normal human interaction, then it has become a problem. Life is entirely to short to waste it in front of computer screen.

Exactly.

It's a relatively cheap hobbie compared to a Jeep, fast car, personal watercraft, or atv though. Hopefully, I'll have the income for a "real life" hobby when I start working.

Winter is the best time for outside fun! Snowmobiling, sledding, four wheeling, even just driving around since it's so nice looking everywhere.

I began my assosiation with computers back in the early '90s. My family bought a 486, and since I was(am) a loner, I started playing the classics. Commander Keen, Wolf3d, X-Com, Command and Conquer.

One day in 1998, my dad came home with a brand-new P2 333. About a week later, Half-Life was released. A few months after that, I found this cool "mod" called Counter Strike, still in the first Beta phase. There began the addiction. Especially with my finding of the internet. But it was dial-up. So, I persuaded my folks to get teh cable.

Since that time I've gone from a P2 333, to a P3 733, AXP 1800+, AXP 2500+ and finally a A64 3000+. I started with a 2mb Rage video card, and progressed to a TNT2, 9600Pro and finally 9800 pro.

I've grown out of the uber-nerd phase. I still attend lan-parties, but I've thrown out my trusty neon-decked case for an Antec Sonata. I'll be replacing my 21" trinitron with a LCD...

But computers are my passion...they are facinating machines. But I have a life...a job, a girlfriend, school...I seem to have less and less time with my system every passing day. But that's alright. There's always those late night binges.

[Quick Update]
After examining the power behind Xbox 360 & PS3. There is no way I will ever be back in computer....for gaming at least.
I brand new nVidia graphic card will cost me aroud $299. I might as well put that $$ on an XBOX 360.
With the console, I won't have the hassel of maintance, tweaking, & crashing.

IMHO I think Computer Gaming will soon be a thing of the past
