I'm somewhere between both worlds. I'm 75% attached to girls and 25% attached to computers. The 75% takes over most of the time.

I got the anti-computer / gaming bug about 5 months ago and I am loving it. I browse ATOT, eBay and news sites now... that's it.

Umm.....

Computers are no longer my life. That happened a few years ago.

I guess that started when I joined other activites which did not involve the computer.

I now use computers for professional/work related reasons. I've invested years into knowning what I know. can't really say goodbye to that. Or Maybe I could...if I found something interesting enough =)

The trick is....work on computers but when you aren't at work, STAY AWAY from the computer and regain your sanity.

Computers are no longer a passion for me. However, I like being passionate in everything I do. I don't mind using computers, but there had better be a damn good reason why I'm using them.

And computer games don't count as a "good reason'.

I lost interest a year ago.
I quit my graphic design job and became a property manager.
I'm probably quitting that soon and becoming a construction site foreman.

No, I have not been job hunting at all, I was considering starting my own business. I met with potential investors/partners and it didn't "click" yet.
Then this guy I know pretty well who owns a construction company offered me a job. Great potential and decent pay. So I'm considering it.

Looks like I'm not the only one, except it's happened over a slightly longer period of time. Same sad story though, and it's not getting any better.

 Thanks everyone for the sharing their story, please keep them coming!

I'm glad I am not the only person feeling this way. Even if this sudden lost in "computer-related-interest"
turn out to be a temporary rut, I hope I'll never get suck back into WORM-HOLE again.

What I hate about computer is that everything is virtual: meaning all the time & energy I spend on it
( system maintance, Tweaking XP, reading anandtech about AMD 64X2, playing Starcraft, Everquest, etc...)
disappear when I power-off. Hence, I haven't accomplish much in the real world during the past 7
years. I am disgusted @ myself :( [ currently, banging my head against the wall for self punishment ]

While I still use the evil computers, it has been demoted into simple communication devices like a
cellphone. I think its much healthier this way.

sometimes i catch myself being a digital packrat-- archiving every email i've sent, every interesting article or picture. i sometimes wonder why. it seems to be a fruitless pursuit and my time would be better spent going for a hike.

argh. i need some balance in my life.

386SX 16 MHz, 486DX2 50 MHz, 166 MHz K6 (my first build), 333 MHz K6-2, 750 MHz Duron to 800 MHz, 1.2 GHz Athlon, XP1700 Palomino from 1466 to 1533, XP1700 T-Bred A from 1466 to 1733, XP2500 Barton from 1.83 to 2.0 I think, Mobile XP2500 Barton from 1.83 to 2.3, another Mobile XP2500 Barton from 1.86 to 2.48, tried a Sempron 3100 for a week or so and went back to the 2.48 Barton, A64 3500+ Winchester from 2.2 to 2.4, and finally, my 3500+ Venice from 2.2 to 2.63.

Video cards... first I purchased was a Voodoo3 2000 (still have it)... went from that to a GeForce2 MX400... from that to a GeForce4 Ti4200 Golden Sample from MSI that shat the bed so I went back tot he GF2... got another Ti4200 this time from Asus and overclocked it to just a tad higher than a Ti4600 with a Thermaltake GF4 cooler... upgraded to a FX5900 overclocked to Ultra speeds... from that to a 9800 Pro with a VGA silencer that didn't overclock for shit... and now I have my 6800GTOC at 405/1050

I've gone through as much RAM as I have video cards and am about to try some other RAM cause this CH-5 stuff is pissing me off.

Gone through a few hard drives... more than I would have liked since Maxtors crapped out on me.

The way I see it... I spend around $1000 a year on hardware... and probably around $200-300 a year on software. That's a relatively inexpensive hobby. There are cheaper hobbies... but there are lots of more expensive hobbies.

I still have fun with new hardware... although with the capabilities of the Xbox 360... I may just abandon PC gaming... that will lengthen my upgrade cycle quite a bit.

I've been the lead programmer at several companies over the past 12 years. I quit programming altogether and became a realtor. I only use the computer now to check email and nef on ATOT for a half hour a day. I've never been happier.

Computers are teh suck.

But maybe I'll change my mind someday and come back to them.

That's basically how I feel. I was never into gaming and I've lost much of my interest in other aspects. I still like building systems, but not for myself. My 1 gig Tbird running 2k serves me well enough.

I'm more interestered in mechanics and welding now.

I'm considering retiring my gaming PC and invest in a Xbox 360. The upgrade cycles cost far too much money and the new PC games not are worthwhile IMO.

i'm also losing my interest in computers...i've been playing with my cars, bike, and stereo equipment a lot more here lately...hell, i have a dvd burner and a 120mm fan i bought about 3-4 weeks or so ago that are still sitting on a table in my computer room...the old me would have installed them immediatley after ripping open the package...now i just don't really care anymore...my main rig has actually stayed off for 3-4 days at a time here lately...it used to run 24/7 since i used it so much...it's just getting old...and like many of you have said, you don't accomplish much just staring at a screen :(

You think that's bad, I have a SCSI controller and 15Krpm Seagate Cheetah that's been sitting a foot from my computer for nearly 6 months now. :p
