How many of you are old enough to know what these are for?

Is it for the middle of a vinyl record so that it stays center when it spins? That would be my guess...

Nope, I had seen them on records before at home, but I had no idea what they actually did until I just looked it up.

Hehhehe, used them all the time. I liked the the on spindle 45 changer adapter better. If you stacked these on a changer they would often pop out.

I had a Donald Duck version of this when I was a kid

Listening to the Felix the cat theme song on a 45, ah those were the days.

Yeah when I didn't have one I'd just wing it and it worked but sometimes the record would be a little eccentric so the pitch went up and down. If it was really off it would be quite obvious except on some of those parties where everyone was passed out. :D

I had a Garrard with one of those and sometimes it would drop two records! Being able to stack half a dozen singles and have jams while working out was nice. Compared now to ipods that can hold days of music. Sick!

What is the point of these? Didn't record players come with an adapter for 45s? I know ours did.

I know what they're for but am not old enough to have ever needed to use them. Does that count?

Manual turntables did not. These clipped in your records and could stay in there when sleeved, etc.

My early 1970's Sony HP-610A with its Dual 1211 turntable does not have an adapter and I've been wanting to get a set of those standard 45 RPM adapters for a while.

So the real question here is why? Why did 45s have a bigger hole than 33s and 78s?

Heh, I sure do - had LOTS of 'em when I was a kid in the late mid-late 70s and early 80s.

OK, I'll raise ya one...

That made it easy to serve Hawaiian punch for sure! :p

Wasn't it for jukebox purposes?

Could've been although the first jukeboxes were '78s. I remember getting dizzy as a kid watching them play and trying to read the label. It was going so fast!
