I've probably got 100 or so 45s out in the garage. Irritating format. They're very labor intensive.

I remember watching a gee whiz science show on Nickelodeon that discussed the invention of the music CD. Speculation at the time was that CDs were going to be encased in smooth plastic making them virtually indestructible. They even showed a cartoon dog carrying one around in its mouth and then the same disc being played to demonstrate how much tougher CDs were going to be than vinyl records. I was bummed when CDs hit the market a few years later and they were wimpy.

Actually for their time they were not. You stacked them and they dropped and played one by one until done. You just didn't get random play is all.

You can to that with 33s, but you get 60 songs instead of 10 ;^)

How many remember THESE OBJECTS litterring the ground EVERYWHERE!!!?

BONUS:

What did us "kids" make out of them once we collected a few hundred?

I used to make necklaces out of them. They were also good for hanging on the rear view mirror of the car, but that was a bit before my driving days.

I had a Garrard with one of those and sometimes it would drop two records! Being able to stack half a dozen singles and have jams while working out was nice. Compared now to ipods that can hold days of music. Sick!

Curious. I pictured you more as the manual Thorens type.;)

CDs were also supposed to be cheaper than LPs.

I've had Thorens, LINN, and Dual turntables. Garrard "changers" were rock solid though! I loved the Black Widow tonearm and had lots of pickups from Grado, Pickering, Ortofon, and Carat.

Lawn darts were really fun but we did stupid things with them like throw them straight up and run like hell. It was like russian roulette with two bullets in the gun.

The pull tabs - yeah we were guilty of doing it too! Putting them in the can once they were pulled off. People actually choked on them because of that. Never had that problem. And I used to lick the catsup off razor sharp steak knives too. ;)

IIRC on the 2600 space invaders game holding down the reset while powering on gives you TWO missiles per each pressing of the fire button. Saves some time.

I was a Stanford, Ortofon (my favourite) and ADC guy. Started with Shure though. Only have a Technics and Dual left. Misplaced the arm counterweight for the Technics. Gonna need to find it when I set my sound system again. I may buy one of those USB turntables to rip some of my LPs to listen on my PC.
