Discussion How many illegals do you think live in America?

Was reading about illegals working as tradesman and when something went wrong they all fled back to El Salvador. I guess they weren't qualified to do the work they were hired to do and this is happening more often.

So how many illegals are living here now?

PS: I hired Italians to repair my chimney and Latinos showed up to do the actually work. I can't say one or the other if they were illegals.

Moved to P&N. You've been here 15 years you should know better.

there's a lot of illegals that you wouldn't call "illegals". In my experience (which is when immigration was waaaay lower) if you got money, you can just go and stay. You probably don't know that the swaggy Greek prince you go clubbing with has overstayed his visa for 4 years and probably don't care because riding in his vintage ferrari is so cool. But hey, technically he's illegal. He got money, he got style, and he's not stealing your job (plus those delicious sweets his family bakery makes) but he's just as illegal as the straw-hat mexican hustling for work in the hardware store parking lot.

A ton of people are also, you know, "legal". As in, officially staying legally, but if you look into it, not really. There's tons of long-term, easily-renewable visas for people of rich backgrounds, that are super-easy to excuse. I guy i know lives there full time, without Green Card, since 2010. He's on what you'd call a "artist" visa. The qualifications are suuuuuuper easy to get, but he ain't contributing to the artistic development of the US, which is what the visa was meant to do in the first place - the guy ain't Nureyev, mmk? Legal, but not legal.

A lot of Americans are only about profit and that's it. That's why they ran to China to outsource manufacturing the moment they could, and that's why they hire illegals here. Instead of looking inward at all, it's all China's fault and the illegal's fault.

Yale study non-partisan study - https://insights.som.yale.edu/insig...undocumented-immigrants-as-previous-estimates

Using mathematical modeling on a range of demographic and immigration operations data, the researchers estimate there are 22.1 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Even using parameters intentionally aimed at producing an extremely conservative estimate, they found a population of 16.7 million undocumented immigrants.

That's even worse than the numbers I pulled out of my ass...

It's funny how we think illegals are primarily Latinos. My mom immigrated from France in the 1950s as a little girl. She never had her green papers. It was never an issue when Europeans were coming to America in droves back 100 years ago. Many of those immigrants didn't have their green papers either.

How many of those are hispanic? And don't say all of them, that'd be stereotyping and racist.

Between 0 and 1 trillion.

The country barely had 100 million back then....now we are close to 400 million and really don't need more.

The roads are jammed up enough.
The schools are jammed up enough.
The hospitals are jammed up enough.
The employment opportunities are jammed up enough.

PS: We can make our own babies.....MADE IN AMERICA!!!

Imagine if someone said the same about your parents/grandparents or whatever.

Yep.

Known more than a couple people in my life who railed incessantly about illegals then knowingly hire a crew full of them because the bid is 10% less than the crews that aren't or they can do the work sooner. This country simply cannot be honest with itself about its thirst for cheap labor.
The guys who swarmed the roof of my house doing a complete tear off and replacement seemed to me pretty much all Latinos. How many of them were undocumented I had no way of knowing, or if they were Mexican, Salvadoran, Guatemalan, etc., but all I heard was Espanol from them. The crew boss was probably also Latino. The guy who I worked with to get the bid was Chinese American.

Estimating how many illegals there are in the USA is like trying to guess if there are any SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in your house. There's no way of knowing.

A lot of construction in my neighborhood, as it is a hot area for development in northern NJ. I take my dog on long walks every day so I see them every day up close and personal. Crews are almost always mostly Hispanic. These are smaller projects, like two family homes.
