The mustang was a 289 with 302 heads, it could haul some ass but the major problem was turning and stopping - I'd call that one in the mid 13's.

The camaro, I havent even gotten out of first gear yet so I dunno.

In fact, depending on the casting, he might have been considerably better off with the 289 heads (higher compression, no EGR bump in the exhaust port, etc).

My car will run high 12's, low 13s now @ around 107 mph with street tires as it is right now, and would run mid 12s with traction.
 
My not so long ago restoration of a GS455 Stage 1 (heavily modified motor) goes 10.6 with street tires in the 1/4 at the strip. Not very good with gas mileage. 🙂

You know the rule of thumb is, every 1/10th off your 60 foot equates 2/10 out of your ET...

That's why I suggest chrome windshield wiper blades as well, took like 4/10 out of my 60 foot. Best money I ever spent at Ricer Mart.

My best so far 13.1 @ 101 in 88 mustang GT on DRs.

Almost totally stock except for mac catback exhaust and 3.73 gears.

Should do better this year with the stang I'm building, 303 cam, upper and lower intake, GT40 heads and 4.10s. Hopefully its done by the start of season!

1/4 mile = approx. 16 seconds? I could care less how fast it is.

I was going to say drop a 3800 SC in that but a quick glance shows that as standard equipment =D Hope you got rid of those 2.93 gears though... shed some weight. 100 lbs = 1/10s

Anybody who knows what they are doing and picks the right car and spends the money in the right places can get into the 11s with little effort these days. Just a engine swap with no mods in a Civic hatch can get 12s for under 10 grand. Bolt ons to a stock 03 Cobra can get 9s and 10s for under 30 grand. LS1 or fox body 5.0 will get you there for even less. I'd say if you were in the 12s youd be in stock Viper, Vette, Cobra territory, and be able to smoke just about any normal car on the road including popular 'sporty' cars that are trendy with teens.

I agree with you though. Everyone who talks about twisty mountains roads just has a slow car and they know it. You always hear about people talking about (to name just 2 examples) how their Acura or BMW is better because of better handling... so why are people in those cars always revving at me at a red light on a straight with a merge up ahead? And these people often live in the middle of a city where all the roads are N-S and E-W, so what mountain twisties are we talking about here? Gonna take me on at the one lane left hand turn lane at 150 mph in the middle of rush hour? :roll:

City roads and highways are straight with lots of stops and short hops to the next stop. Thus low end torque and straight line acceleration is where it is if you drive in the city and just want a faster car than everyone else.

I have a 96 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi with the s/c 3800, but ive never taken it to the track. Its stock except for the CAI I hope to have installed this spring. It will do 14's but im basing that on other SSEi's.

i pulled the 10s out of my ass because ive never ran a 1/4 mile but the 0-60 is true. its only 1.5 seconds quicker than my car stock so how is that so unbelievable? specially with the t51rspl

0-60 in 4.5 is low 12s

2. They're high-schoolers.
3. 2 is redundant, ignore it.
4. They haven't driven anything faster than what they're sitting in, and thus it is totally beyond their comprehension that such a car can exist.

Personally, I like flying around corners and moving swiftly through clogged traffic. The guy with the LS2 angrily revving at me from a few car-lengths back on the interstate because he can't place his car properly is having a lot less fun that my piddly little 1.7L zinging along in front. 😀
