How did Apple succeed in Tablets (ie: iPad) when everyone else failed miserably?

lulz yet every reviewer that's not Apple biased says Honeycomb is a million times better than iOS. They all say iOS needs an overhaul asap but whatever helps you sleep at night.

And which reviewers would that be? Please point them out.

iOS only really needs three major things to stay relevant:

1) A seriously overhauled notifications system
2) The ability to add live data to the lock screen (weather, etc.)
3) Better cloud syncing capabilities along with OTA updates

Other than that, iOS has held up pretty well for the past four years.

Anandtech, Engadget, Wired, I forget the rest. I'm surprised you post here yet don't even read Anand's reviews. His reviews are probably the best and most in-depth of any reviewer out there.

I think one other key thing overlooked here is the fact that Apple had something others did not: An already successful and accessible distribution point (Apple Stores). This allowed them to keep the price of the iPad low. Other manufactures initially couldn't get anywhere near the price point once suppliers added on their margin.
This is perhaps the most retarded thing I have ever read.

A million times better? Puhlease. There are areas where iOS comes out ahead and where Android comes out a head. Neither is a million times better than the other. I'd like to see you point that out in an AnandTech review (I do read Anand's review, thank you).

And Engadget, they're the biggest Apple fanboys in the techworld that does have Mac or Apple in its site name.

As for Honeycomb, most reviews I've seen say that the software is "beta" at best and that it was rushed to get out there to compete with the iPad 2.

From Anand:

Elements of Honeycomb do feel rushed however. The stability of the OS/apps, the missing SD card support and random OS quirks come to mind. As a result I'd recommend waiting for at least the first Honeycomb update before pulling the trigger on one of these tablets.

From Anand:

Sure it's buggy but he was commenting on the interface and I simply rebutted that. I never said it wasn't buggy. He said it's the most fucked up interface ever yet most reviewers have said the exact opposite. If an OS is buggy it's still easy to tell how good an interface is. The Palm Pre was buggy to pretty much everyone yet everyone has always said it's still one of the top OS's in terms of functionality.

Here's the simple truth. Apple focused on the experience of the user while other manufacturers tried to wow everyone with specs. That's it in a nutshell.

I use that POS Xoom every day at work (my company is working on an Android app). Google got it all wrong. The thing about the iPad that makes it great is that the OS stays out of your way so you can focus on the content or apps. Honeycomb is overly complicated with pointless widgets, weird iconography that makes no sense and is confusing, confusing to navigate apps, etc. Not to mention the UI looks like it's from the movie Tron and the UI graphics still stutter worse than the iPhone 1.

The Playbook is an even bigger piece of shit.

The only people buying alternative tablets are die hard Apple haters like Nik.

Stay out of your way??? Yea it stays out of your way by having huge notifications interrupting everything you do.

After owning Plam Pres, Blackberries, Androids and I currently use an iPhone 4... there is no way I could ever go back to anything that is not an Apple phone.. unless...

1) Android/Palm stops using plastic and uses high quality materials for their phone and screen

2) They surpass Apple in battery life

3) They surpass Apple in MP3 capability (Android can't do an Equalizer to save its life)

4) I have surprisingly spent ... lots of money on the App Store... not a single Android app was ever worth buying

5) I could go on but there's no point

As an end user, the specifications, the hacking, this and that... they are now meaningless to me. When I was in High School, that would have excited me. I just need things to work without adding stress to my life these days. For one thing, the device cannot be a plastic device.

BECAuSE WHEN APPLE ANNOUNCES A PRODUCT, THEY HAVE IT IN THE MARKET WITHIN A FEW WEEKS FOR PURCHASE, NOT YEARS LATER.

also, Android is full of fail and suck.
The Playbook will probably be nice in 6 months or so.

^ For some reason, I get images of Playboy bunnies, NFL, and pimps when I see "play book"...

because people who own one like to be seen carry an iPad (or pretty much whatever the latest Apple product it).

I could care less what people see me with.

Electronic devices do not make you cool or make you good looking. You are still just as butt ugly as you are with an iPhone or a HTC Thunderbolt. If you are good looking, you can sport a 15 year old Motorola and no one would notice.

Good design? It's a fucking iPod Touch with a bigger screen and it costs 3-4 times the price.

Don't get me started.

I own an iPod Touch because THAT is a good product. The iPad is proof that Apple customers are brainless, soulless husks with nothing better to do with their money than support a company that takes advantage of their customers.

:hmm:

This guy is hilarious. The iPod Touch is the truly worthless and extraneous device in all of Apple's repertoire.

The iPad 2, which I intend to get when they become available, is a larger screen reading device. Magazines, books, casual surfing... these are not things that can be done on a pocket device.

On the other hand, the iPhone is the all in one you should have instead of an iPod Touch. I can see people using an iPod Touch only if they were truly destitute or impoverished and unable to afford the $70/month for a smartphone plan.

Apple is awesome, the target paying customers.

For every android buyer, there are about 100 at home just making posts on their 10 year old Dell that they share with 8 other family members and bragging about a non-Apple smart phone they don't have.

Sadly everyone of these fucks goes and buys an iPhone when their scratcher comes in.

So are you one of those dumbass dipshit customers? Your responses to this thread are hilarous. You are bashing apple while owning an apple product that you yourself said is great.

I really like the part where you compare the price of an 8 gig ipod touch to a 16 gig iPad.

8 gig ipod touch = 229;
16 gig ipad = 500.

Yeah i guess that is 3-4 times the price 🙄

The cheapest iPad is 500. The most expensive is 800 or 900. 800 or 900 for a fucking iPod Touch with a bigger screen. Literally the same internals.

I paid $54.xx total for a brand new iPod Touch (which retailed for $189 at the time) and all the accessories, an in-car charger/FM transmitter combo, spare phones, and a desktop mini speaker system to plug it into all from Amazon. It was to replace a broken MP3 player used for a 12 hour shift locked in, basically, a Faraday cage.

Suck it.

And???

Verizon was selling first generation iPads (16GB WiFi) for $299 last month. That being said, if you're gonna bitch about the iPad being a "larger iPod touch", then the whole tablet phenomena is lost on you in the first place.
