I find alcoholic drinks almost universally taste like shit. Plus I don't care for the after effects anymore. That said I have kicked a 30 year soda habit and quit smoking this year so maybe I'm starting to give a damn about myself or something...lol

I've never enjoyed drinking a beer with a meal. The contrast in taste between food and beer is too much for me. Soda occasionally is bearable but usually I need water or milk with my meals.

Hard Cider > Beer

why would anyone drink beer when you have the choice of hard cider? it's usually of higher alcohol content and tastes exponentially better.

Maybe if you're a woman, but I'm not, so I drink beer. Cider is far, far, far too sweet for me.

Hard cider is usually too sweet for my palate; most of the time it ends up tasting like those B&J wine cooler drinks that are exclusively for getting freshman to take their clothes off and puke on you. I had some pretty tasty cider last weekend though, a dry cider that my fiancee found at our local convenience store. It basically came across like a dry apple juice. Not bad.

Beer is better though.

I stopped drinking soda, either sugared or low-cal. Neither are good for you. I drink an occasional beer, almost daily a glass of red wine, coffee a few times a day. Water on rare occasions.

Soda tastes better.
But I dont need either. Trying to lose weight.
You should get on my diet plan. Look at self in mirror, stare disappointedly at spare tire, have a couple glasses of whiskey and think, "meh, fuck it, I think I'll order a pizza." I've lost two scales already!

I'd choose a Coke over alcohol of any kind - wine even. Just can't stand any of it. My dad was also an abusive alcoholic which made for a pretty shitty childhood. I'm sure that's weighing on my decision somewhere.

Id rather have a diet soda

That's even worse than normal soda.

Diet Soda is less healthy than non-diet soda. Even though it has "0" calories, think about the artificial sweeteners that go into it. It is like poison going into your body that is indigestible.

Pretty much this except the abusive father thing D: I don't actually mind beer too much but I don't really care for it either and I find hard liquor to taste like shit. I prefer sweeter drinks to be honest, usually a Coke.

Iced tea > Smoothie/Whip/Shake > Soda > Wine (pinot) > Water > Beer

As far as soda goes, after eating a salty meal beer doesn't hydrate like water, iced tea, or even soda does. At least IME. Don't get me wrong I love the beer, but not with meals.

Because beer does not taste good. Not to mention, that you should not be having an alcoholic beverage and then getting in your car as you leave.

Been seeing a lot of this, and I might tend to agree. I like having water also, but I drink a lot of water throughout the day, so I can have a beer with dinner, and not feel like I was snacking from the litter box. If I didn't have access to water, I wouldn't drink beer with my meals. I've lost the taste for sweet drinks. I've always hated sweet tea, and I drink little soda anymore. When I do drink it, it's in small quantities, and more as a dessert item rather than a practical thirst quencher.

My rule (self imposed) is to get one "other" drink during dinner. Then everything after that is water.

Beer tastes like crap. Soda, while as healthy as a heart attack, at least tastes good.

It's true that most commercial ciders in the US are WAY over-backsweetened, but that reflects on the manufacturer, not the beverage. It's like saying that Americans can't brew good beer when all you've ever had is Bud Light.
