I do it all the time. Well diet soda because of my diabetes, but because I usually do the driving and I usually have kids in the back.

Artificially carbonated sugar syrup is just uncivilized to drink with food.

If you dont want alcohol just drink water or carbonated water.

yup. It goes along with my ketchup theory--those who like ketchup, simply don't like food. mask the taste of everything with sugary goo that destroys all meaningful taste.

same with soda. carbonated sugar slurry is just about all you can taste.

You know...I didn't realize something until reading this thread:

Do people actually drink soda with dinner? Like, theyre at home, cook a nice meal, and drink soda?

:hmm:

Maybe I'm odd...but I never thought such a habit existed.

When I cook something quick, ie Spam & rice, hot dogs or whatever, yea I'll drink soda.

When I actually bust out all the ingredients and go to town for dinner, usually ice water or tea. Once in a great while I'll have a glass of wine.

For bbq, beer/soda. Mostly beer.

I'm talking about when you go to sit down for a meal. If you get a nice light beer (Cruzcampo, Estrella, etc) it is as sweet as Pepsi/Coke but much healthier.

Ignoring the alcohol, the beer has much less sugar and more fiber/potassium.

Why would anyone subject themselves to the non-natural poisonous mix of chemicals known as soda?

Some people don't drink alcohol?

I find it extremely odd myself. We don't even keep the stuff in the house because neither of us likes it. If I am at a restaurant and don't feel like having alcohol, I just drink water or maybe a black coffee.

Also agree on ketchup, which is nauseating stuff.

You are way off base on mayo though dude; lactation of the gods that stuff.

beer can also completely detract from a meal. An exceedingly bitter IPA to someone who is not used to drinking it will destroy a palette.

I want something refreshing when I drink something, not something bitter or overpoweringly strong. I have a sweet tooth and cannot stand black coffee either, so it stands to reason I wouldn't like beer since like 99% of them are bitter and taste like shit. The only good beer is either that which is consumed on a hot summer day or when already drunk.

Try fruit beer sometime. Might suit your palette.

I really like beer. I don't know what it is, but I find it unpalatable while eating however. Stupid taste buds.

Hey man...NS1 is bringing up old shit. I never intended to bring Mayo into the discussion of inferio(u)r consumables.

...and this is the first time I mentioned it in this thread.

Try a heffeweizen. The monk will not disappoint you, especially on a hot summer day.

Ns1 never forgives, never forgets. Ns1 is referencing himself in 3rd party to increase Ns1's douchiness for this post.

Besides not liking the taste of any beer Ive ever tried, they charge you $7+, no free refills, and you shouldn't drive if you have more than one.
Another thing I'm grateful for living out here in the boonies - when I got out of work Tuesday, I said to the wife, "let's go out for burgers tonight." Those burgers were awesome; and the fries that come with them were awesome. And, it was $1.00 draft night. The selection was decent (though not microbrews); I believe I had Labatts Blue.

$7 for a beer?! Fuck that!
