Lol give this loophole and the wannabe dictator will exploit it.
Winning / losing elections should have consequences.
This stalemate of ours is a weakness, not an advantage. You only look at stopping the enemy, you do not see the need for our people to actually make a difference too.
If voters deliver a change in leadership, but it results in little to nothing. Then they will abandon civil discourse in favor of violence. That's practically where Trump came from in the first place.

The Presidency is not a dictatorship. It should obey Congress. WHEN Congress speaks. If Congress cannot speak, then the country should still function under the executive branch.
Otherwise there would be no need for a President to exist.

-They get what they want while also getting to divert blame and responsibility.

Sounds like the Republican party we all know and... know.
It's probably been said earlier, but some Repugs probably want a shutdown to "starve the beast." (Although it won't actually achieve the desired outcome, but just punt federal bills down the road and cause havoc.)

And although voters say they blame the GOP for being non-governing assholes, they keep voting them back into their gerrymandered districts so there's blame without consequences. If the GOP causes a recession in mid 2024, they figure that actually helps their chances of winning the Presidential election. History shows that a recession in an election year is invariably bad for the incumbent.

amazing what cucks every one of these GOPers are. Trump tweets a thing, they all drop their pants and wait for servicing.

Are they all being threatened, daily, by his fucking MAGAT army? I know half of them are completely uneducated, ignorant fucking pieces of shit, but even a lot of them should be able to just say this shit out loud about the prison of Trump world that they have constructed for themselves.
Even knowing what kind of inhuman garbage these people are, I still can't wrap my brain around their complete lack of shame in publicly immolating themselves like this, every fucking day, simply to serve the random narcissistic whims of an 80 year-old dottaring pedophile like Donald Fucking Trump. Seriously--why don't they make the threats from MAGA world more public? Are these idiots so poisoned by tying their self-esteem and identify to the amount of Twitter likes that they get from Trump-inspired Russian bots that they are this willing to shit all over themselves in front of other adults?

I still don't get half of this.

Nah doubt any changed their mind with the orange monkey declaring Emmer a RINO. The Gaetz faction was never going to vote for a mostly sane congress critter. But rinse and repeat with Johnson. The same that won’t support Gym won’t support Johnson. Then back to one MAGAtards won’t support. Just an endless circle

I am sort of impressed how they’ve managed yet again not to deal with the real problem and instead are pinning their hopes on this nobody ultra conservative tool. I’m sure it’s going to work out lol.

Yeah, maybe this is a bit much to ask, but how about no fucking people that tried to overturn the election...

These traitors not only shouldn't be speaker, they shouldn't have a job, and furthermore shouldn't be walking around free. In most countries those that attempt insurrection face some consequences.

Do political parties deal with their real internal disagreements? Seems like history is littered with parties that just split instead. Cast too wide of a net and you'll end up pulling up repugnant crap that no one wants.

At least in recent US history yeah, though this means you can't empower a radical minority excessively as the Rs have done here.

Johnson opposed the results of Obergefell vs. Hodges

So for me he's already a 9.5!

And he voted to not certify the election saying it was stolen.. so he's a Trumper!
Reporters attempt to question Johnson about this and gets shouted down and told to "go away".

The GOP is really good at knowing just how damn stupid their public is.

There are a ton of people who don't follow politics, will finally realize the shutdown is hurting the economy (especially if it's *their* wallet) and go hurr durr, who's president right now? That's who's to blame!

So yes I expect a shutdown is fine and dandy with that central core of boobs led by Gaetz (can you imagine being "led by Gaetz"?) because they know their voters will never hold them responsible for it.

The most recent shutdown featuring a Democratic president and a Republican Congress went precisely the opposite.

The poll also found Republicans taking the blame for the shutdown: Americans said the GOP was responsible over Democrats 39 percent to 19 percent, with 36 percent blaming both parties equally.

Congress also received its worst approval rating ever in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Just 12 percent approved of the job Congress was doing, and 85 percent disapproved — 70 percent strongly. That is Congress’s worst rating in the nearly 25-year history of the Post’s polling on the subject, and compares to a 31 percent approval of Congress before the 1996 election. In July, Congress’s approval was at 21 percent.

President Barack Obama’s approval has held steady during the shutdown, at 48 percent approval to 49 percent disapproval in Tuesday’s poll.

- Large news orgs should have someone on point from every state (or maybe a network of reporters, one from each district) specifically to go try to get some answers from these guys so when they're met with a response like this they can truthfully fire back "I'm a voting member of your congressional district, which means I'm your boss! How is it acceptable to ask your boss to shut-up and go away?"

And then just play that shit ad nauseum everywhere.

It is totally unacceptable for elected members of congress to tell the press or frankly any American citizen to basically fuck off.

Well, I'm glad to be wrong. Maybe its because I still live in FL, but it's hard to ascribe reason to people. And "we've" been responsible for some truly awful politicians in recent years, starting with Rick "I should be in jail for fraud" Scott.

I read that as 55% think Democrats are at least partially to blame vs. 39% who think the blame rests solely on Republicans.

Why would you apply two different standards?

If you wanted to go that way then it would be 55% who think Democrats are at least partly to blame while 75% thought Republicans were at least partly to blame.

Because the reality is that Democrats should get 0% of the blame while Republicans should get 100%. So Republicans are getting significantly less blame than they should and Democrats are getting significantly more blame than they should.
