What’s funny/sad is all this misery is self inflicted due to their insistence of electing the speaker with only Republican votes.

They could neuter the freedom caucus whenever they wanted by simply making a deal where the chamber as a whole elects the speaker and getting a majority that way. You know, the way it’s supposed to function.
It was mentioned during last clown show. When has either side voted for the other side's speaker?

I have no idea but generally speaking it was almost never necessary.

I mean if you can elect your own speaker and run the house you don’t need to ask the other side for votes. It’s pretty clear they can’t though.

The Republican Party had a chance to convict Trump and make it illegal for him to hold the Presidency again on January 13 2021.

43/50 Senate Republicans , or 86% of Senate Republicans voted against conviction because they are in favor of treason if it helps their candidate win the Presidency.

175/211 House Republicans, or 83% of House Republicans voted against conviction because they are in favor of treason if it helps their candidate win the Presidency.

The Republican Party has no interest in doing what is good for the country. Only what is good for their hold on power.

Exactly. Plus the 140 day clocks starts after Newsom announces the new election which can be up to 14 days after the vacancy which won't happen until he actually leaves. The election could be as early as May 7 and as late as June 4th.
math must be difficult for you.

Forgot leap year. Thanks for the correction. Problem of using a Julian calendar and not realizing 2024 has Feb 29th in it.

Corrected Math: June 3rd would be 140 days from Jan 15, which is 14 days from the vacancy. But since June 3rd is a Monday, and elections must be on a Tuesday, that goes back to May 28th. But May 27th is a state holiday, which prevents May 28th from being a legal election day. So, May 21st becomes the latest possible date for an election.

Again, math must be hard for you? Has nothing to do with leap year.

Lets be more direct: How many days are there in 3 months? How many days in 6 months? (May 21 is 6+ months away). Now, how many months are there in 140 days? Lets see if you can math.

Somebody here sucks at math and it isn’t him. JFC you can even go ask google how many days there are between Jan 15 and June 3 and it will tell you it’s 140 if the math is too hard. If you’re going to be a smart ass at least get it right.

Jan 15, 2024 is Julian date 15.
June 3, 2024 is Julian Date 155.

That's 140 days without messing with months, weekends, or leaping around.

What exactly is your point?

Also, May is the fifth month, so it is not more than six months after the vacancy clock begins January 1st.

Perhaps the point is that the countdown calendar does not start until the vacancy opens, which will be January first, the day after he leaves rather than at the date of the announcement a few days ago.

I actually missed that he was going off of starting January 15. However, that has nothing to do with the point. And why I asked how many days or months. The point, and his inability to math, is 140 days is NOT 3 months as he had claimed. 140 days is 4.6 months. That is where he is not mathing correctly. The starting date is not relevant, as it doesn't matter what day it starts or ends by counting the days in between equalling 140 days. 140 days is still 4.6 months, not 3 months.

Brycejones attempted to get him to realize his error, but rather than mathing and realizing his error, he responded to Brycejones with: Exactly, and then gave dates, complete missing his error. Seems you all missed his math error as well as you where focused on the calendar days and not the fact he claimed it's 3 months.

@repoman0 JFC! How many months are in 140 days? Was that not my question? Where did I question the dates? You can Google it to confirm it's not 3 months as he claimed. My math is spot on if you actually stopped and thought about what he said, what was I asked ( the questions should have clued you in, had you been following the conversation). Come on, pay attention!

Except @dullard never said 140 days is 3 months, so who's the pompous moron who can't read or spell?

The Point is that it was Jedi who mentioned 3 months and later edited it to 4 months after Dullar pointed it out.

So CA law says there must be special election within 140 days.
And mcarthy's district is a Red stronghold.
so the R's will only be down 1 vote for around 4 months.

Special election for Santos's seat is Feb 13.

edit:
4 months.
thx Dullard
The Point?

That was a Nilsson cartoon.

Sorry @dullard, @Lost_in_the_HTTP , and @repoman0..

And McCarthy is gone.
His resignation goes into effect.

Wow, he's been in office since 2007.
He's achieved legacy by getting Speaker and 2rd in line to be Pres but at what cost?
His name will be forever on that short list but was it worth it to whore his ass out to anyone and their pets?

Maga Mike's chances of keeping the USA open went down by 1.
(Part of the Budget expires in mid Jan and the rest in beginning of Feb, thx to Maga Mike.)

Will he make another deal with Dems to keep the govt open, risking his neck with the FreeDumb cockus?

Wheres that Meme about which of the 2 buttons to push?

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday earned an endorsement from House Majority Whip Tom Emmer -- whose speakership bid he helped tank last year.

It'll likely go down again when the special election is held to replace Santos.
