Agreed, let’s focus on the important stuff like keeping the White House & gaining more seats in the Senate & House

-Yep, and everything about Mike Johnson screams *snake*.

Maybe a snake was what the Republicans need as leader to herd an entire caucus of snakes, but let's not let petty shit like "is that a Rolex" distract from the overall picture.

We have enough info to know not to take MJ at face value.

I don't personally know anyone that would do this, but anecdotes and all...

Some older people though are steeped in an era of owning a nice watch that could cost anywhere from $5k-$50k. Given he was born in the early 70s and worked in private law practice before being in Congress, I doubt he was some pauper that only had his congressional salary to work on, and maybe he was one of those people who wanted a nice watch...

As for X could get stolen as a reason to not own something - that's a specious argument.

I hate to defend this SOTH, but there are so many better things to criticize him for than just owning a nice watch. If anything, the watch just plays in with the whole "not having a bank account" - like, is he just stuffing money under his mattress and paying cash for it?
Huh? Where are you getting your anecdotes and all, if you don't know at least one person that would do this? anecdotes kinda requires real people or real incidents. Non of which you have any experience of being around or knowing. Some old people? You mean the rich ones? So you are basically throwing out unproven assumptions to defend the soth huh?

I've seen this discussion play out on Fashion Twitter in the past to know there are watch people. It's not that rare.

Fashion Twitter huh? Is that equivalent to hearing discussions with car people who own Lamborghinis and rolls- Royces on motor trend?

Nobody is saying there aren't watch people, nor that watch people are rare. I even have a few in my life, one of which is a close friend. What you are not grasping is thar nearly all of them won't spend 10% to 30% if their annual income on a Rolex. It's generally the rich that can afford them, and has them. Nearly all of them go for the brands they believe are the closest you can get to a Rolex, without the price tag.

Your argument is equivalent to saying because you heard discussions on motor trend, with car people and Lamborghinis, it's not rare or uncommon for car people to own a Lamborghini or Rolls-Royce. That wouldn't be factual, just as you argument about watch people isn't factual.

I personally know regular non-rich people who have not one but multiple nice expensive watches, including Rolex. These people are car mechanics and other middle class tradesmen that I know as part of a local auto enthusiast group. They buy the watches used.

This is a stupid discussion though .. of all the things to be angry about in modern politics, spending multiple multi-paragraph posts preening into this guy’s life about a watch is boring and petty.

You needed Twitter to tell you there's dudes obsessed with watches? There were several on here that had multiple threads about them. Granted I think a lot of that was douchebags attempting to humblebrag or something. But there were others discussing it like Bateman discussed things in American Psycho. I always thought that was weird as shit behavior but whatever, I don't wear any jewelry and couldn't give less of a shit about it. If I had Rolex or any watch worth any money it would be kept in a safe just to appreciate until I was desperate and/or found some sucker to sell it to.

I remember in high school, half the guys in my class were obsessed with Fossil watches and Oakleys, so it wasn't a new thing. I found it just as baffling back then, especially as it often devolved into accusations about authenticity, showing it was some weird shitty mechanism for them to try to pretend to be superior to others.

Hell half of audiophile market is actually just dudes wanting jewelry but having to pretend its practical to justify it. But most of that was really just a ponzi scheme where it was people looking to convince fools to buy their overpriced jewelry (which for the most part would massively depreciate - even more face palm worthy was how that still happened even after the idiocy that invaded so many other markets where frenzy skyrocketed pricing as people sought certain things for collecting specifically as investment to artificially inflate the supposed value took over audio market).

But then, why the fuck are people discussing this and not this miraculous conscious pile of goblin shit that managed to win Speaker of the House and its terrible politics?

Agreed it is akin to the shit stains complaining about how much AOC’s haircut costs or how she gets to wear expensive clothes for photos.

Except Rolexes aren't really the Lambo or RR of the watch world. They're more like the Porsche 911 (base model) or Vette. It's really the entry level in most cases. Some exceptions apply.

Excellent side discussion though ...

edit: Changed "are" to "aren't" as pointed out by @iRONic

These clowns can't govern their way out of a wet paper bag...

There are eight days until the government shuts down and the House’s latest budget bill has failed because of a provision allowing businesses to discriminate against employees who use birth control.

Not surprised. Uncle Thomas has already stated his desire to revisit a person's right of access to birth control.

Sorry, you are correct about used rolexes. I was refering to new. However, even used ones, that are 20 years old, are $4k to $5k.. not cheap.

Normally I would agree, except it exacerbates the unusual nature of his finances. Someone who can afford a Rolex is almost certainly going to have enough money/wealth to have reportsble assets.

Absent that giant red flag, it is completely unworthy of discussion

Mainly she is a woman that dares to talk back. Really pisses off the alpha males of the GQP.

Oh I totally get it. I'm saying the difference of criticizing MAGA Mike purchases vs AOC, is that she has a bank account, which makes those accusations a joke. While for MAGA Mike, it's a relevant question.

We are irredeemable because...
Mike Johnson during remarks made weeks before he ascended to the House speakership called American culture "dark and depraved" as he pointed to the rise of LGBTQ+
Once again gay people are responsible for this country's ills.

I don't know why all these guy's insane quotes, of this one is kind of tame, aren't just blowing up in this so-called 'liberal media'

we wouldn't have to talk about theoretical watches if the media covered his lunacy, and if Dems were out there every day saying his craziest quotes, of which there are many.

I had a 300 dollar pair of Oakleys, best sunglasses I ever owned. Lost them in a rollover accident.

Awhile back, I was assigned a (new) old work vehicle. Found a pair of sunglasses in them. I'm sure they were cheap 10 dollar (maybe) gas station glasses. But I liked them.

Was working a job, where some methhead came out trying to chat me up, he just couldn't get over how much he liked my cheap ass sunglasses. Asked to try them on ect, ect.

I told him NO, and I am busy, (my work had nothing to do with his apartment) but he kept on and on. So I went back to my work vehicle, and got some extra tools. Namely a 3lb sledge hammer. I thought for sure he was going to try and snatch them off my hat. I had them sitting on the bill at the time. He kinda got upset that I wouldn't hand them to him. Finally went away, well the last time anyway if you have ever dealt with ppl trippin on meth.

I was fully prepared to break his kneecaps if he tried touching these cheap ass sunglasses. For no reason other than they were now mine, and they did what I needed them to do.

But seriously, Oakley's have a different kind of sun blocking element in their lenses, because my good pair I lost, didn't darken everything, color was still vibrant.

OT I know, maybe. I would never spend 300 on a watch.

And yet the bible belt overlays nicely with the poverty belt and the uneducated belt and the highest mortality rate belt. Religious people are the dumbest people on the planet.

I hate the #bothsides. PEople always use that to appear "fair" when talking about the extreme right. There is no comparison to those right wing crazies. Think AOC is on the same level as...

MTG
Matt Gaetz
Paul Gosar
Tommy Tubberville
Steve King
Lauren Boobert
