It's funny/sad/enraging how these guys think whenever they control even one chamber of government that they have the ability to dictate policy for the country.

It's never worked in the past and it's not going to work here. If they want to shut down the government then they can do that, and in the end they will capitulate anyway.

I'll double down on that sentiment but apply it to my fellow "Americans” who keep putting these fucking ghouls in office over feels and owning the Libs!

We should give them at least part of what they want. Cut the deficit and/or taxes by cutting subsidies to red states and rural areas. I’m tired of paying for them to endlessly whine.

They don't actually want to cut the deficit - they don't give a shit about the deficit.

This is shown by them blowing up the deficit every time they are in power as well as pushing for cuts to IRS funding, which actively increases the deficit.

Oh 100% agreed — but they pretend to care about it! It’s a constant talking point on conservative news whenever a Democrat is in charge. So let’s cut it by keeping our tax money to spend locally instead on our priorities.

This idea is only slightly tongue in cheek.

This is called weaponizing the states rights clause and I am all for it.
You don’t want federal subsidies then fine you’ll get none.
You don’t want Medicare for all, fine you won’t get it. Pay for it on your own.
You don’t want educational monies, fine you’ll get none. Have fun figuring this out in 5-10-15 years.

Is anyone surprised? I kinda figure this whole charade was to try and nuke the economy in an election year to up Trump's chances but with some plausable deniability of "see we tried!" sprinkled on top.

As soon as I started hearing gas prices were under control, inflation was at 3%, soft landing looked increasingly likely, the more I knew Pubs were going to try and torpedo the whole thing below the waterline.

Why would they (GQP) do anything to avert a shutdown when they have important work to do? You know, like telling Hunter Biden he has no balls even after Spork-foot MTG has introduced graphic evidence to the contrary into the congressional record.

That would have been funny. Mtg claims Hunter has no balls and a democrat member chimes in, “that’s not true! We know for a fact he has balls because you showed a picture of them here on the house floor!”.

Apparently not even half of R members are going to the House GOP retreat. To say that morale is low in their caucus would be an understatement.

Did you see what they're openly saying.. they don't want to pass bills and be Dem Lite.. they want to be MAGA.. not passing any bills is full on MAGA!

It seems MJ isn't even trying to block any of the discharge petitions. So Ukraine will finally be getting some lawyers, guns and money 💰. OK, HIMARS, F16s and 155mm shells. That also works.

- Have we entered the "governing by discharge petition" phase of congress? Maybe that's how Pub Speakers will have to opperate from now on, block everything to appease the MAGAts, quietly allow discharge petitions through so the donors don't pull their funding because everything is in a deep state of neglect.

The defense contractors who stand to make bank on weapons for Ukraine have to be leaning pretty hard on Johnson.
