Sorry guys.... I did not mean the charger shuts off. It has a built in timer control for overcharging that only goes up to 12 hours though. It takes that long or longer to charge the 2000mAh batteries. It does discharge, switch to trickle when the battery reaches full charge, and indicates "dead" cells via the LED's.
By the way..... I sent a friendly email to the sales department and told them that I had received (2) dead cells from my prior order. I received in 3 days (2) new replacement cells. I was not expecting anything, but just emailed them to let them know I had received two dead cells. Nice customer service.

Sounds like superb customer service. I will have to do the same for the dead cells that I received.

It's better to just get larger capacity battery, though more expensive. You can do it, but don't charge them in parallel, always in singles-series.
A different reason to run them in parallel might be to get more current... these are not high-current batts.

The MH-C401F is NOT a newer model of the MH-C204F. It's a different design, doesn't support discharging but does support pulse chargine. Maha claims the pulse charging does away with the necessity to condition (discharge) the cells, but I wonder.

The C401FS can charge each battery separately, the C204F cannot.[/quote] For that purpose, the C401FS would be better, at least in terms of being able to charge 3 batteries at once. It has 4 separate charging circuits. The C204F has two.
250 mah
Basically mah stands for milliamp hours. So a 2250 mah battery can supply 2250 milliamps for 1 hour. Or 1125 milliamps for 2 hours, etc. You multiply the millamps needed by the time usage in hours to figure out how long it will work for your particular device. So a 2250 mah battery gives you 250 mah more then a 2000 mah battery, equivalent to a 12.5% increase in how long it will work for. So if you can use the 2000mah battery for 8 hours on your camera, the 2250 mah will work for 9 hours. If you can currently take 160 pictures then you would get an additional 20 pictures out of the battery.
A lot depends on the usage though, just having the camera on takes a little current, add the lcd display and that ups the current needed, taking a picture draws even more and if you use the flash even more. So if you are taking pics without the lcd or flash you will get a lot more pictures then if you use the lcd and flash. So if batteries are dying turn off the display to get extended life.

Why fast charger is better than slow charger:-1) The voltage drop (i.e. the delta detection) is easier for
a fast charger as it is pumping more current into the battery.
A slow charge has more chances of missing the peak detection
2) When you buy a battery for $1 or even at $2.5 (at your local Walmart)
do you really care if instead of gettingg 500 charges, you are
"only" going to get 100 charges out of it?
3) I still have 2 year old Panasonic 1600 batteries which are still
going strong and they have been exclusively charged by the Rayovac
1 hour "cooker". I wish they would die, I would then go out and
buy newer 2200 mAh and giving me almost 40% more charge
3) Fast charger is more convenient
4) If I had not picked gazillion Dynacharge (Duracell) 1800 last year,
I would jump on new 15min Rayovac system. Walmart has the 15min
4AA package for about $13.
In short, I see no reason to use slow charger at all. Frankly, your
batteries will die of old age or worse become obselete well before
they are harmed by GOOD QUALITY fast charger.
