I've looked at the pen rebate form, and you may not be limited to the two-headed Sharpies (268-701) mentioned in the first post. Any of the $4.99 rebates will work (SKUs: 746-031, 268-681, 831-776, 822-429, 460-147) as long as they don't cost more than $4.99 to begin with.

However, I tried all of them and only the two Sharpies (268-x) were available for online orders as of press time. If you need regular rollerball pens instead of Sharpies, you can give it a shot and see if you have better luck than I did.

You can use the online code for OD to order products to pick up at your local OD. Your local OD is sent the reciept with the 15 off 50 added in so you can pay then with cash when you pickup or credit card online ahead of time...So that way you do not need a printed OD coupon all the work is done by you online...

I got the MOST RETARDED CSR at online OD last night that was most unhelpful. I hope he finds a better job he likes.

Anyway, after he told me the Jam-P3 was completely out of stock in all local B&Ms also, I went to my local OD to return something else.

They had the MP3 player (2) in stock for $39.99 and the 3 packages of markers for $4.59 each. My total with CA tax was $41.67 after $15 off $50 coupon (which they took by code - no hardcopy was necessary). My rebates should be $44.97 plus mailing and proof of postage.

Not bad for FREE (plus). And I NEEDED markers anyway!!! :D

THANKS!

Right, there are other (better, IMHO) choices for the pens, but the online ordering center only seems to have the Sharpies available. However, if you manage to tell it you want to pick up the order (which may require you to put $50 in your basket so you can get past the "you do not have the required purchase to use the coupon" error, it will let you pick almost any of them, so long as your local store has them. My local store had all of the pens, and I got the markers which are $4.99 each.

Not sure I picked up the items at my store also paying by cash when I got there, but in my case they rung it up on a register and gave me a store reciept that listed the player and markers.

Well there is another in stock somewhere because I just canceled my order. With all the confusion on Office Depot's reciept that I got, which shows the player as $26.00 after the -$15.00 and the coupon saying the JamP3 rebate can't be more than the cost of the player, and the phone tag I got when I called on the rebate, I bailed. I have two MP3 players already so it's just not worth the possible hassle later on to me. But for all you guys that did get it I hope it works for you.

LintBalll,

Executive Summary:
It's a little feature-impaired and quirky, and it's a battery hog, but it has good sound for the cost (especially after this deal).

Details (as always, YMMV):

o Installation was easy on my homebuilt Win98SE Frankenputer; I was listening to it fifteen minutes after cracking the seal on the box.
o Had a minor glitch since I already had a newer version of MusicMatch installed than the one on the Jam CD, but I got it unscrewed quickly.
o The download plugin to MusicMatch allows you to resample on the fly, which I thought was cool for a cheap player. However...
o If you've got large files, specifically those that take more than two minutes to resample, you need to keep hitting a button on the player or else its auto-shutoff powers it down. If it's powered down when the resample is complete and MM tries to write to the player, MM crashes hard and won't come up again until you reboot. There may be a way to override the auto-shutoff, but I couldn't find it in the manual.
o FF/REW keys only skip between tracks, not within a track. Very annoying.
o I found the batteries hard to remove without a fair amount of force, really more than I felt comfortable using based on its construction.
o Sound quality was better than I expected using my own headphones (the included earbuds are crap). Volume was OK, and the ersatz equalizer had Rock, Jazz, Normal, and Classical settings that you can almost tell the difference between.

parkinggod, thanks for the detail about making sure that the mp3 player was on when MM starts to transfer the resized mp3. earlier in this post i mentioned that i was having troubles with resizing and making sure the player is on fixed it. i am using 98se and really don't like MusicMatch or the JamP3 software. could anyone comment on the ease of use (or lack of) in W2K? thanks

Just got it today (shipped for free :)

I'm running Win2K, very simple installation. Just plugged it in and it recognized. I had to reboot to install Media Player 7.x though.

Simply went to the "Storage Device" tab and copied the mp3s over. 16MB is so little it's funny.

The headphones they came with it are those tiny ear wax collectors (the ones you jam in your ear.) Forget those, I just plugged in my Panasonic OpenAir headphones and was good to go. No ID3 tags, just "track 01, 02, etc".

This is definately not a player you would want to buy if you didn't get paid $2 for it. hehe

I know, but I find it funny that the player at Office Depot costs less than what the website is selling a 16MB memory card for.

so, now that we got the jamp3 player, where would we go for the mmc card?

there was a thread about viking mmc for $70 at amazon.

is that really the cheapest it can go?

Nahh, how about pickup another JamP3 with rebate on your mother's house, and use it as your expansion card? :D

If you use win2k, you do not even have to install Media Player 7.1. You can just copy the mp3 file to that driver.

That 16M makes this player useless. It's just a toy. And I won't spend $50 - $100 to expend the memory. I can buy a cheap mp3 CD player in CC for $60 - $70, and the CDRW can hold 650M.

I guess the build-in .bin file is its firmware, if we can modify it to make this "player" to play Windows Media 8.0 (or mp3 pro) file, it will be hotter.

What does waiting to Fill mean? It looks as if the markers didn't get ordered. It also says for the markers that the order CAN be changed still. And my receipt looks like this:

<< Thank you!

It means the order was sent to the warehouse to be filled. (It can also mean backordered.)

They have split your order and only charged you for the player and shipping. You will be charged separately and later for the markers (unless you cancel and the coupon is reversed). Then, it appeared they are shipping everything but the total charges have not yet caught up with you.

My local OD rang up my Sharpies at $4.59. Will I have any trouble getting the $4.99 rebate?

The web site says there is a "other side" on the rebate but doesn't post it or any other fine print.

You bet that MP3 player is a toy. But I'd even buy it for $10. I have learned something about MP3 players, and can handle the 40 or so of minutes of cassette-quality music for strenuous activity listening.

With decent headphones it isn't too bad. Good deal. Thanks, again!

Heck, for me (someone who almost NEVER listens to music) this is a great thing... I can stuff maybe 6-7 songs on it, and run it around. If I wanted I could spend a few FREE amazon gc's (promos, coupons, normals) and get a small OR large MMC card for free, AND make money with a rebate...

Anyone had success with the jamP3 in windows ME? I get everything installed, but once I click on "download playlist to jamP3" I get the ugly BSOD. Installed it my parents win98SE machine and no problems at all. Also tried to use my own headphones and it wouldn't work, After twisting and turning, I sometimes got audio out of 1 channel. Then I tried it in the car with a car adaptor and got the same thing, usually only played out of the right speaker. Glad they'll end up paying me for this thing, because I don't think it'll be used hardly at all by me.

Using the win2k method in WinMe, and it should work. I used this jamp3 as a potable USB disk, and copied some files and a directory from my win2k pc to my winMe pc, worked fine. You can just copy the mp3 file to it and you don't have to install the software.

The earphone of my jamp3 does not work either. Connection is poor, I guess. So I just use my own headphone, and it works. The headphone jack on that jamp3 has a bad design.
