And I thought computers were getting cheaper. 5 years ago you could build a sweet gaming machine for $600-$900 and have near top of the line 3D card and more. Now this?

x2 320Gig WD SATA HDs 240.00

1,350.00 Not a bad for a custom setup. Would be one FAST rig if over clocked. I guess would need another 2XX for water cooling.

Sweet! Got in right before they went OOS. According to my order status Monarch has also kindly upgraded my shipping to 2 day fedex from the cheapest ground! Can't wait to get this puppy to test out.

Well you wasted your money on Crucial Ballistix. You should have bought 2x1gb of PQI turbo PC4000 for $205, that saved you $100.
The second thing you bought wrong is Powersupply. You should have bought Ultra X connect power supply 500watts for only $15 AR from outpost.com, this power supply is rock solid and one of the best in the business. Check the reviews for powersupply.

Mine is shipping today, i have my setup ready for this puppy with water cooling. I will post my results of overclocking as soon as i get back home from work.

Very good deal, I just picked up a single core Opteron 146 though. Can't complain and hope to get it past 3GHz on air as well 🙂 Man, I've been spending alot lately on upgrading again lol. Least I don't have to upgrade everything but this is what I've spent.

Opteron 146 = $146 @ mwave + $6.42 s/h
GSkill ZX's 2GB kit = $221 @ newegg + $3.83 s/h
x800 GTO2 with zalman cooler/heatsinks = $250 from megatomic off FS/T forums here.
DFI NF4 Ultra-D = $85 from sswilson off FS/T forums here.

Total for upgrade = $712.25.

YEESH!!!

Luckily, I am selling and have sold off a few older items 🙂 So it's not that bad. Now I just need to sell my DFI NF3 UT 250GB board and 3400+ A64 DTR to take the edge off those expenses.

Darn hot deals! Love to hate them.

I agree with the point about the Curcial Ballistix, though I would have gone for OCZ Plat for $225AR rather than PQI. As for the PSU, reccomending an ultra!?!? are you feeling ok!??! The fact that it's $15 AR should tell you something (as well as the fact that two burst into flames while stress testing on two different reviews). Stick with the antec or pick up a fortron, Seasonic, OCZ, PC P&C but for Heavens sake, stay away from the Ultra!

The crucial Ballistix right now are some of the best OCing memory. Of course it comes at a premium. There are other memory makers out there that use the same IC's as the crucial at a lesser price but not all are ocing as well as the ballistix despite the same chips and PCBs. However, some DO get up there, just not as many for other manufacturers. I went with the GSkil for example and took a chance. Hopefully I can OC well enough with the GSkill. I wouldn't get the PQI turbos because it's using the older infenones which do NOT overclock well. That's why they are cheaper and you also have to deal with the hassle of a rebate. I hate rebates.

The OCZ, mushkin, Crucial, and GSkill 2GB kits that sell for over $200 all use the same modules, either the newer infenon CE-6's or the samsung UCCCs. Going with any of those is a good choice in terms of performance and overclocking overhead.

As for the power supply. LOL at the Ultra connect. If you want to KILL your dual opterons, then be my guest and by that hunk of junk. I wouldn't even use the thing as a doorstop. If you want a good power supply...

PC P&C
Seasonic
Herolachi (sp?)
Enermax
Antec
Fortron
Zippy
OCZ (least of the above)

Any of those are going to be your premium makers with PC, Zippy, and Enermax currently having the absolute best supplies out there. The new Enermax Liberty is frikking AWSOME. There are few things better then this that you can buy as a normal consumer.

Link to the Enermax Liberty

There is one PC P&C and one Zippy that might be better, but as far as being able to order one and them costing under $200... g'luck finding that.

If you want to get the most out of your opterons, you need a good PSU. Mixing gold + crap gets you crappy and tanished gold. Don't mix crap with gold.

I receive the following message from Monarch.

"Thank you for your recent order with Monarch Computer! You placed an order for an Opteron 165 processor. We received an overwhelming response to the processor, which quickly depleted our existing inventory. Unfortunately, we have just been informed by AMD directly that there was a manufacturing issue that occurred on this particular processor. AMD does not expect to have stock on this processor until the end of this month, and that may change depending on the manufacturing process."

That must be the bad contact with the IHS I've been reading about.

From my understanding, Micron only allows Crucial to use the IC's in the Ballistix (Micro -5BD chips, or something like that). The only other chip I kno that uses the same IC as the Ballistix is the Crucial value chips.

Well i don;t know about you guys, but i have been using ULTRA for about 6 months and it is rock solid with my on going system.

Then you got an old one. When Ultra first made those before 2004, they were decent PSUs. The original company sold out and it's something completely new and complete CRAP! Buying one now is like buying a death warrant for your computer. Might as well take out a sledge hammer now and start beating on your parts. They'll have a better chance for survival against a sledge hammer then that PSU.

Okay.. maybe a tad bit over exaggeration but not that far off the mark.

As far as the Ballistix, the original 2GB kits were using Micron -5Ds. Then they moved to C's.. now people are finding UCCC's interspersed. All still good. But the Micron ones were indeed the monster overclockers. I forgot to make that distinction but I know the newer ones aren't all the old Micron chips.

I just got the same email. I was one of the first to order and they charged my card. They also mentioned this.

We do apologize immensely for this, and would like to offer you an AMD gift bag of items to go along with your processor once they are available for shipping again

Yeah, but I just got another saying AMD was sending them a special shipment to fulfill their current orders and they should have it soon. Check your email again.

HeroOfPellinor Thanks for the update 🙂 I just sent them an email seeing if I could upgrade to the 170 if it wasn't going to be here for a month.

Tried that too. Though I just asked for a discounted upgrade to a 170. 🙂

LOL, funny thing is, it's probably 5 times as powerful as your Celeron based HTPC. 😉

I just ordered from Mwave this morning, they called me back and said the "Item was discontinued" and canceled my order.

I notice it isn't showing up on their website at all anymore. :Q

Monarch was the only other place that had these in stock for a reasonable price, and now they're listing an ETA of December 5...:thumbsdown:
