Dual core opteron @ 1.8GHz, I would assume overclock just as good as x2 3800+.

It has 1MB cache per core. Any idea how it could be?

A guy in CPU forum was able to get it upto 2.8ghz with XP-90. I hope with my Thermaltake big water i will able to do the same at least or better.

Hmm. Didn't find any info on AMD's site about the new dual-core Opterons but it looks like the older Opterons support PowerNow. The question now is how does PowerNow compare with the A64's Cool'n'Quiet...

Well you could be good with AsRock Dual which i think goes for $60-$70. You can read the review about it on the Anandtech main page. It is a nice motherboard with AGP & PCIe, so you don;t have to change your video card also.

And on the top it will overclock well.

The new skt 939 opterons support all the same things the X2's do. 3Dnow! SSE, SSE2, SSE3, Cool and Quite, etc.

Well they run somewhat hotter because of dual core, but not a big difference.

Yes they support every thing you have in X2 AMDs. Over the top they have better memory controller, and they are made of better quality then rest of the AMDs because they are Opterons.

Since A64/Opterons have an on-chip DDR memory controller, you're stuck with DDR until the socket M2 stuff comes out sometime Q1 next year.

Funny OOS while I was looking at it. Curious that they're $160 less than the lowest price on Pricewatch, which is Monarch. You don't normally see such a wide price gap on a product like this.

Edit: Im not sure that the eVGA Nforce4 SLI motherboard supports it. It DOES show support for FX processors but not for Opteron.
