Wow that is amazing i got mine delivered today. But it is also surprising why they are not selling them?
I mean how stupid is it for not selling a product which is selling fast.

Are there any other places at all carrying this CPU (and not overcharging by $150+ for it)? I hope those of us who haven't yet bought aren't screwed. :|

monarch sent me an email said something about manufacturing problems affecting lead time. but i would imagine its undercutting sales to enthusiasts.

MWave shipped my Opteron 165 on Monday and it should arrive today. I ordered it last Friday night. Sorry aboyt the rest of you.

I ended up just getting a 170 from Monarch yesterday. It only ended up costing me around $30 more because of the tax *discount*. Something CA shoppers may want to consider.

PC P&C
Seasonic
Herolachi (sp?)
Enermax
Antec
Fortron
Zippy
OCZ (least of the above)

Any of those are going to be your premium makers with PC, Zippy, and Enermax currently having the absolute best supplies out there. The new Enermax Liberty is frikking AWSOME. There are few things better then this that you can buy as a normal consumer.

If you want to get the most out of your opterons, you need a good PSU. Mixing gold + crap gets you crappy and tanished gold. Don't mix crap with gold.

Ok..where is your data that proves the OCZ is "worst" PSU on this list...I hate when people make such unfounded statements that sound like Dogma
I agree PC Power & Cooling is probably the best on the list but beyond that, it is all conjecture...I have owned Antec PSUs and my experience which is limited would indicate my OCZ 520w Powerstream is far better, in performance

But my experience is so limited

Same here, went for an OEM 170 from Monarch. Decided I didn't really want to take the chance on that one selling out too and having to wait weeks for it. It was a little more than I was planning on spending, and I'll still have to pay for a separate heatsink (although I kind of wanted a better heatsink than the stock one anyway), but it'll be nice to have the 10x multiplier at least. 🙂

Do you mean $30 more than the 165 OEM at newegg? Or the 165 retail from somewhere else? Because I have both in my cart right now, and the 170 from MOnarch is $356 + 5.90 for shipping. The 165 OEM from newegg is $313.94 including tax and shipping. That's about a $50 difference, and the OEM from MOnarch says 60 day warranty?

Ok this is really bad. I got my Opteron last night and i installed it with my MSI Neo4 platinum SLI motherboard, and it is not working right.
After installing windows and all other software every time it reboot it gives me a hardware error with blue screen.
Warns me that might be some of the hardware is not working right. I checked with my Other MSI Neo4 platinum SLI motherboard same thing, i really don;t know what to do 🙁
Anty body else having this problem with this motherboard. I flashed the latest BIOS 3.7 for both Motherboards but no effect. I changed memories to make sure but no effect.
Neeeeeeeeeeeddddddddddddd Heeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllpppppppppppppppppp

We received an overwhelming response to the processor, which quickly depleted our existing inventory. Unfortunately, we have just been informed by AMD directly that there was a manufacturing issue that occurred on this particular processor. AMD does not expect to have stock on this processor until the end of this month, and that may change depending on the manufacturing process."

That must be the bad contact with the IHS I've been reading about.

Good info. Thanks.

THe one year warranty on the OEM 165 is CONFIRMED with customer service at NewEgg. FWIW the other OEM dual core and only the dual core OEM Opteron also has the one year warranty. Odd that no other OEM chips even the other Opterons seem to have this.

This is through AMD, so NewEgg's normal OEM policy applies as far as they are concerned. 7 day refund, 30 day replacement after that you have 1 year to go back to AMD.

If this is the case, then heck save some dough, go OEM and Volt the poop out of these. Heck in a year you are probably buying the next great thing anyway!

***RE: the PSU sub thread*** Peronally I don't like PCPC PSUs because they are all kinds of ineficient. They suck major power and I could tell the difference in my electric bills. I find Antec and Enermaxes to be my favs and generally very efficient. Currently I have an OCZ Powerstream 600w, which I absolutely love. My first PSU other than antec or enermax, but perhaps not the last...

PCPC = overrated IMO. Not that they aren't great PSUs, just not worth extra money again IMO.

Are you saying that all OEM Opterons (the dual-cores at least) have a 1-year warranty through AMD, even those not purchased through Newegg...? That's kind of what your wording sounds like to me. 😕

No, from Mwave where I had originally ordered from. It was $334 shipped.

Sorry to confuse. I called newegg they confirmed the manufacturer 1 year warranty. What you are saying is implyed because it is the manufacturer but that is NOT what I confirmed, though it may be true.

I'm just telling you that NewEgg CS confirmed that the OEM opteron 165 does come with a manufacterer 1 year warranty.

The only other OEM cpu that lists this same warranty is the Opteron 180 OEM. I did NOT ask about this, but assume it also applies.

No other OEM chip, Opteron or otherwise, mentions any manufacturer warranty EXCEPT AS MENTIONED THE 165 and 180.

I'm sorry if I ended up confusing rather than helping, but hopefully this is now more clear. I'm not calling AMD, so this is good enough for me.

***NOTE*** I have never noticed any kind of manufacterer warranty on any OEM chip before, so I'm still not entirely convinced this is true, just wanted to share what info I had. We can hypothesize anyting we like. Perhaps only newegg has this deal with AMD. Perhaps all one series dual core OEM chips have always had this warranty and no one ever noticed. I only know what Newegg CS told me as explained above...

I didn't say OCZ is a bad PSU at all! In fact, with what I mentioned above it's in VERY good company. The reason it's "least" is for a variety of factors. Take the top dogs like the Enermax Liberty, PC P&C, and Zippy. Know why they are top dogs? 1% line tolerance, lowest ripple and noise. Higher power, PFC, and usually a decent or very high efficiency ratings. The problem is they also command a very highprice for all that. Now... take OCZ, not the same line tolerance, good ripple, not the same noise tolerance, adjustable pots, average efficiency BUT a higher then average price compared to other companies with equal PSU's. They are sitl good, just a bit more costly then they should be in my opinion. In comparison with frotrons but frotrons are much cheaper. Seasonics are on there because while being similar to OCZ they have MUCH higher efficiency ratings. Thus they are cooler and MUCH quieter.

There are a few other PSU out there that are good, but the problem is not all the PSU's from the same company are consistantly good. Take TTGI. They got some nice PSU's, when made by topower, and some really CRAPPY ones made by a different manu. While they do sell PSU's that could compete with frotron in terms of performance and price, they don't have that for all their PSUs. Fortron does. They don't put out crap period.

Besides this isn't a PSU discussion per say, it's an opteron discussion. The point of the PSU's is making sure you are using a quality PSU for these optys. ESPECIALLY if you plan on overclocking with these which I would since these chips have PLENTY of headroom for speed. If you do buy a PSU for an opteron, just make sure it's good enough to actually use in your computer instead really only being suitable to being used as a doorstop.

You're thinking of dual opterons.

so i only need 1 gig if it's just single opteron? sweet, i'm ordering one from newegg.

1 chip, dual cores, just a normal ram subsystem instead of the dual ram subsystems like on workstation boards.
