**HOT **Dual Core Opteron 165 1mb cache x2 = $ 270.00

All, AMD dropped the price below $300 just recently, it will take a while to trickle through to the other vendors. Also, while the chip has 2MB Cache total, it is only 1.8Ghz compared to X2-3800 @ 2.0Ghz. If you don't overclock, you may want to take that into consideration.

Regards,

Well with more cache it is equal to X2 3800, even it runs 200mhz slower. From my research it came to my attention Opteron 165 is stepping E6, which is way better than E4 single core opterons.

From what I am reading elsewhere we will start seeing these around $290 sometime soon.

I certainly hope so, else I'll be kicking myself again for missing another deal. I refreshed Mwave's page earlier and saw OOS...hope I'm not screwed now. (like if they decide to jack up the price since they're popular, as seems to be the trend these days)

Go down you will see the result of overclocking "3.5ghz".

Did you see the 1.7v vcore? :Q

Can you say " liquid nitrogen " ?

Hmm...is 1.7V really that much on 90nm A64's? I thought I've seen people recommend 1.55-1.6V all the time as a safe "max" Vcore, and 1.7 isn't that much more...

Then again, I'm pumping 1.875V through my 1.5V (stock) Athlon XP on air...😛

It should.. No way to be 100% sure ..

Need to make sure your BIOS supports dual core, or the OS will not see it..

I believe you're right.. I was thinking in terms of the dual core, which was the subject of the OP..

I had a venice at 1.7 on air, temps in the 50's.. No problem at all..

You guys realize that since I bought one of these today (hopefully...I haven't received a shipping confirmation yet) the price will drop down to $230 tomorrow...

No way that will happen since I want one. Its after I buy at $300 that they will drop to $230 🙂

Who needs to wait for an X2 4000+ part when we have this?
Hottest dual core chip of the year.

Damn, I saw a thread yesterday where this opteron needed to be 200mhz or 400mhz FASTER than an X2 to be equal in games. It was an anandtech thread though. I wonder if there is anymore evidence though, because I really want one of these or else I'm buying an X2 3800+.

Funny thing is, the CPU consumes 110 watts, which is 5 watts more than my ENTIRE HTPC based on a mobile Celeron! LOL.
