Horrible new grading policy being tested in schools

My wife just told me that the other highschool in her district is testing a policy where no child can be given lower than a 59%....ever. You can turn in an assignment or test, get every answer wrong and still get a 59%. They still give Incompletes but that just means it no longer counts towards your total grade......

And they aren't the only ones! She went to a staff meeting where they were told that this new program is being tested all over the country. They are afraid that children feel like they get too far behind if they get too many low grade assignments/tests. Then they just give up because they think they have no chance. Now - by only being able to get a 59% as the lowest grade the student will not be overwhelmed by past failures in class

I just can't believe it.....

so 2/100 = 59%?!

Come on!

HS isn't worth anything anyways. What college are they going to get into with a 59% avg? McDonalds?

Social promotion saves tax money. This policy simply moves the kids through the system w/ minimal fuss. If parents don't care about their kids' education why should anyone else?

You know what would save even more money? If we kicked the failures out of school forever.

Eh could just weight the semester exams for like all the grade... would be more useful as well as it would require actually learning and not just cramming.

Fucking ridiculous. It's like those bumper stickers that say "at <whatever> school, every child is a winner" only taken to a whole new level. At this rate, Idiocracy will have been prophetic.

This is a great idea. After all, that's how the real world works isn't it? If you get a job and perform like crap, you won't get fired or anything. You'll just get a lower review so you don't feel bad about yourself.

I know someone who teaches at a local elementary school and apparently children aren't allowed to play games with winners and losers, because they don't want children grow up thinking they are losers. No 4 square, no basketball, no dogeball, nothing like that. In every game they play during reccess ever child has to a winner.

What games do they play then? counting but someone would win that. sleeping someone would fall asleep first and last... umm living... ah yes they all win on that else one of them dies then they lose... ummm yeah????

Another example of psychologists and sociologists ruining America.

I remember one game she described involve a map of the U.S, each child is given a state, and each child takes a turn trying to find that state on a map. If they child has a difficulty then they can be helped. After each child turn they are clapped and told they won. Each child is clapped and told they won.

Also last year at the HS I graduated from for the standardize test they held an assembly to motivate the students, but not 1 assembly but one for each race. Their was a white assembly, a black one, an asian one, a hispanic one, and an other one. It was so any one race wouldn't feel singled out and targeted during the assembly.

So, now some /b/tard can just draw dicks on their tests, get 59%, and cruise through school. And this is improving the education system... how?
