I'm beginning to think that why the people that think they're "the best tasting apple" like them...

Exactly. The same reason that Bud Light is the best selling beer, when it actually tastes nothing like beer.

I'm an apple lover and I love honeycrisp. They taste exactly like old fashioned apple cider, but in fruit form.

I also dislike almost every other variety of apple. There are thousands of varieties and most of them are not very good eating apples in my opinion. I like maybe 10 or so varieties that I've tried, including honeycrisp. Honeycrisp is not my favorite, but I enjoy them when they are in season. I like the fact that honeycrisps are firm without being chewy, sweet, and long-lasting. There are a bunch of apple varieties that are outrageously delicious and perfectly textured for about 1-2 days and then outside that window they are garbage, and therefore I don't care for them since I don't want to have to worry about keeping apples for a week or two.

The best apple varieties I've had are obscure hybrids from a local farm. One had a pinkish flesh and tasted like a more delicious pink lady. A high compliment from me since Pink Lady is my favorite variety that is available most of the year in grocery stores.

Point taken. slag's opinion is therefore invalid.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say its invalid, but I do believe you two are on to something. Its still an apple, and has an amazing sweet and juicy firm bite, but no tartness. Its like the most pure sugary form of apple juice thats still in an apple.

Yeah, I am thinking now that my analogy was not good for a number of reasons, but particularly people expect different tastes out of apples apparently. I do know for a fact that it is harder to eat "supermarket" apples after one that was grown with no pesticides or fertilizers.

I am more of a fan of complex flavors and textures and found honeycrisps paling in that area compared to some granny smiths. The biggest problem with the "fresh" food industry as it stands is inconsistency.

Honeycrisps rock. They aren't as good as winesaps, but they still beat granny smith. Granny smiths get hard towards the center.

Yeah.....winesaps are the best, most flavorful apples in the kingdom.

I was only introduced to honeycrisps last year or so...was impressed.

I also like Braeburns and Cameos.

The Honeycrisp thread is back, along with the hype from the generally anti-apple crowd.

Thread pops up every year, and every year people get it fucked up.

Grapple > *

This is why they easily sell, even when they cost 4-8 times the price of any other apples outside of a honeycrisp. They were THREE dollars an apple last time I picked one up. Even expensive Honeycrisps are cheap compared to them. I could have gotten about 4 lbs of granny smiths for the price of 1 Grapple.

you know you're not serious, right? that isn't even fruit.

It's a real Apple, soaked in real grape juice. Grapes are good, Apples are good. Combined they are even better. They're real, and they're real expensive. The local fruit stand charges $8 for a 4 pack. The thing that gives them away as being fruit is I buy them at a fruit stand that doesn't sell anything but fruit

Honeycrisps are better than a mealy and bland Red Delicious but not what I'd pick.

Jazz and SweeTango are crisp, sweet and a little tart. When I can't get them I might settle for a Fuji or Braeburn.

being infused with purple sugar drank is a good thing?

no thanks.

stick to real fruit, with real sugar.

If you want a real hybrid of real fruits that is actually a real fruit and actually tastes good, then go for a pluot.

It's not infused with purple drank, it's soaked in 100% Concord grape juice and injected with some water that's mixed with more concord grape juice. A Grapple has the same amount of sugar as a normal apple. It's not an apple fused with Kool-Aid regardless of what you think. The grape part doesn't resemble purple drank, it tastes like grape juice.

We've been through this before. It's artificially flavored. Grapples are for children who are raised poorly.
