Just picked some up at Target last night - didn't even realize it was the season for them. Enjoying one now.

Honeycrisps rock. They aren't as good as winesaps, but they still beat granny smith. Granny smiths get hard towards the center.

I buy Honeycrisps when I can. Target usually has a great selection of large apples. I will probably pick some up today. My Fiance and her son never had honeycrisps until I brought some home. Both made remarks about how good the apple was and I told them what kind they were eating. They are now sold on honeycrisps.

The best apples are golden delicious. Everyone knows this.

*delicious apples are one of the most deceptively named foods in the store. It's the equivalent of buying a bottle of hot sauce, and finding it tastes like mayo.

This is not the season for them. We have 3 honey crisp trees in our orchard, however, I am worried that this warm spring will lead to early budding and a later freeze and we'll lose everything.

The most "Meh" of overhyped apple I've ever had.

If it's not Granny Smith, it's not worth eating.

I think you are thinking of something else. Granny smith's are so tart and sour, ick. Honeycrisps are where its at.

And its not season for them so something is afoot at the circle K.

And your point is...?

Regardless, if you haven't had a RIPE Granny Smith, then you have no room to judge them.

The only other apple worth eating, IMO, is the Winesap. And they cost about twice as much as GS's around here.

I find I still like Empires the most for eating.
Nice and small, really crispy, they are perfect in season in the fall. So yummy.

Methinks a poll would show the Granny Smith's superiority. I will eat other varieties except Red Delicious, and Red Rome. Rome's remind me of applesauce with skin around it, yuck, and RD's are always bland in my experience.

That said Granny Smith is the best because of crispness and tart, makes good apple sauce too.

I've had granny smiths. They don't hold a candle to the Honeycrisp. People like the honeycrisp because they are sweet and juicy and easy to eat, unlike the sour granny smiths. Thats my point.

If by sweet and juicy you mean flavorless and watery, then you're just about spot on with your assessment of a honeycrisp.

Designer apples FTL.

it's a delicious apple that had sex with a bottle of grape drank. They cost a buck each out here, but imho I'd pay $2 if I had to.

Trader Joe's has it as well. My wife bought couple bags when she saw it. She loves it but I can't eat any apple unless it's 100% organic. I get allergic reaction from the pesticide.
