Hi,

I threw away almost 50 bags of clay soil (40-50 lbs each) last Friday:

Had to tip the garbage man!

ELmO
You are lucky...our garbage man won't take soil, neither will our compost collectors. They only allow brush and grass, and sticks smaller than a certain diameter I don't remember the exact size, but I know they have rejected small branches from me.

I'm beginning to enjoy it more now that we've got most of the yard the way we wanted it... AND I CLEANED OUT MY NASTY SHED (before the warm air brought the critters back to life). Nothing like a clean shed to store all the goodies in. The only thing I wish I did 10 years ago was buy a self-propelled mower. Pushing this thing around sucks. I don't know why I haven't bought a new one, but the thing just keeps on churning - never changed the oil once.

I refuse to get landscapers. I told my wife to pay me $100 a month instead. I will admit they do the chemicals, etc. better though. Can't find the good stuff at Home Depot / Lowes.

I pay someone to come cut my grass. I have a 15 foot cliff in my front yard that is hard as hell to cut. Only way to cut it is with a weed whacker. It is pretty dangerous because you have start at the bottom and start to climb up and swing weed whacker to get it all cut. One slip and you are going down to the bottom of a sidewalk.

If it's a nice day out and I have free time, then yeah, it can be nice.

But, allergies :awe:

Yep!

Dr.Pizza, I have one of those too. 😀
Contact boomhower - he knows a guy who will get rid of that stump for $25. 😛

Actually, I saw an ad on Craigslist where someone was selling a very large stump (12'x12')- they wanted $800 for it. There was a flurry of craigslist ads making fun of it.

Hi,

Thanks! Yes, I contracted out the patio's firepit and the putting green (southwest greens). Everything else I planted and maintain.

Nice!

i don't know man, watching axmen on history channel, stumps and lumber can be worth a shitload of money.

Mowing isn't my problem. I actually don't mind it because it makes my fat ass get up and go outside in the blistering heat and push something heavy. I REALLY actually like the exercise that I am forced to do.

Now on to the problems: It simply stands that there is way too much shit and there is no real solution unless you are a complete and utter expert. There is just WAY too much shit. If it was just mowing, I would love it. Instead, our backyard is complete crap from all the grass dying - yet I will water that shit, fertilize that shit, blah blah blah.

As a new home owner I have been dreading it, but now I'm starting to feel that I kind of like it now that it's MY yard. I've ownly mowed once and pulled some weeds, but I like knowing my yard is better looking for it. I'm also notoriously lazy so having a nicer looking yard than all my friends is a source of great amusement.

Home ownership is for the birds. Hate yard work. Hate unexpected repairs. Hate upkeep and maint. Stuck with "those" neighbors. Higher utility bills. Trees! Use to love trees, now I HATE trees! I figure I've spent $10,000 over 10 years on planting trees, maintaining trees, then having trees and limbs removed. Plus don't forget leaves. Hate trees! Hate raking! Hate shoveling. Hate mowing. Yep... home ownership is for the BIRDS! Not to mention the impossibility of selling for any reasonable profit (as we once thought we could do some day).
Home ownership means yard work. So that means when you buy a home, you also become a slave owner, and YOU are the slave owned.
Anyone that claims to like yard work is either new to it, has a teeny tiny yard, in their 20's to 30's, or are totally bored on the weekends with no life or friends to speak of.
And even if you have no friends, no life of your own, after time you still will grow to HATE yard work. You should be spending your money on fancy cars and tropical vacations, not tree maint and yard work. Its so sad....

You whine about the upkeep and not getting your money back, and then go on to say you should buy a fancy car?

That's quite a long post to be rendered completely moot by that final statement.

lol

I'm going to guess you're like 24, aren't you.

i hate it.

i have a shit ton of leaves and no idea what to do with them.

I blow them back into the woods where they came from. Eventually I hope to cut down most of the trees on the half acre of our property that is wooded, and keep just a few large shade trees. For the moment the battle continues.

I raked all of mine into a huge pile and mixed them all with the rest of my yard waste and kitchen scraps. The interior of the pile decomposed into beautiful dark soil, composted remains of all the yard waste. I didn;t even had to turn the pile, but if I had done so, I would have produced even more compost.

I had like 20-somethign wheelbarrows of composted soil and it all went into my garden last week. Saved me a few hundred dollars of compost that I would have had to buy.

I don't live close enough to smell it, but apparently our neighbors are complaining about someone that does this, and the smell is awful. He puts leftover meat scraps in there and everything. I guess he has one of those composters where you go out and rotate occasionally (it's like a barrel) and when he rotates it it smells really bad.

So you really are "THAT Guy" 😛
