I enjoy the end result and it feels like I actually did something as opposed to just wasting my time playing video games. Mowing the lawn for me is relaxing.

Not really. I pay to have it done.

I have a big yard and a lot of trees. It takes a crew of guys several hours to take care of it.

I pretty much hate it. It would take more time than I have to get it done properly, it costs money and there's other things I'd like to do. My lawn is really hilly and shitty and needs a good amount of work but I'm more interested in fixing some parts of the house.

A mini excavator isn't going to do the job. It's just going to grunt.

I don't have a picture of the stump, but perhaps some perspective is needed.

$25 to take the stump out? I don't think so.

For what it's worth, that tree = one Poulan piece of shit wild thing. (gift) The gasoline was always mixed one gallon at a time, with the little bottles of oil that are the right size for 1 gallon (no measuring errors). And, the wedges on the original fiberglass handle eventually disintegrated, and broke one wooden handle (2 swings; must have been a bad handle), and the lifespan of one of those big wedges shaped in a plus. Awesome wood for bonfires. Just had a small one a little bit ago - perfect way to wind down the day with a beer, listening to the frogs & peepers in the distance.

ok either you are "little" (people have to remember that show!) or its one hell of a stump.

I don't mind yardwork. So far this year i have trimmed the tree and bushes. mowed the yard (it was high after all the rain and snow). got the garden ready.

i was going to build a chicken coup but since i had shoulder surgery i can't.

we have 3 medium stumps to have taken out, 2 small ones (size of the ones Red squirrel posted). I also need to get some filler soil to even out the yard.

When I use to work second shift I would do my own yard work. This included doing it in the heat of summer at lunch time. I have allergies, but I broke the activities up between two adjacent days.

I was so successful at having a healthy lawn that just the act of mowing needed to be more often than once per week. But when I got moved to days, I refused to waste my weekend on doing chores and ended up having the wife outsource it amd haven't looked back since.

I get zero exercise and the yard work was probably the only thing I did do for any cardio. That has shown itself against my weight and raising my BP. I also miss the time that allowed me to think while doing a low-brain task. Yes, this is called therapy.

But life changes and with it its priorities.

you ever rented a stump grinder thing before from like home depot or some other place? i'm wondering if the hand ones are powerful enough to get a big ass stump i have in my front yard. i'm pretty sure they will get out the little ones in my backyard though.

I hate it. It's an awful time sink that seems to always have to be done no matter how recently you just did it.

I like yard work. I always feel the fittest in the summer because there is work to be done in the yard. Lawn mowing is a weekly thing. Hedge and bush trimming is once a month. Planting annual flowers in the spring is a project. The veggie garden needs constant maintenance and starting the garden in the spring is alot of work. And this all falls under normal maintenance.

There are some big projects too. Last year (made a thread about it here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2181823&highlight= ) we had an invasive tree that I broke my ass to get all the roots out. Scarred up the front yard and was killer work to pull all of these roots out. It took 2 years to remove all traces and wait for new ones to sprout. So far this year none have come back.

Anyway, I do enjoy it because it makes the house look better and when the work is done and you are sitting in the backyard with a drink or entertaining friends/family in a nice looking yard, it makes it all worth it. This year I'm gathering alot of old brick with the intention of making a firepit. Yard work keeps me fit and healthy. In in my early 30s and have never paid anyone to do yard maintenance although when I get older I can see how some would not want to be bothered with it.

Hate it.

Here in Minnesota we only get 2 months out of the year in which the weather is tolerable (not too hot, not too cold, bugs aren't out, etc.) and I don't want to waste it doing yardwork.

Yard work is fine now while the weather is cooperating, it gets put on the back burner the hotter the weather is. But a ice cold beer after yard work is the Bee Knees as far as im concerned.

hate it.

I'm not a home owner, but I take care of the up-keep of the yard for the two family house that I live in, since the other apartment is home to a 90 year-old lady... once/week, I'll trudge out, mow the lawn, and pull any noticeable weeds, but that's about it.

I've got a mini-herb garden, but it's all potted so the only maintenance there is just watering and trimming as needed.

I enjoy it, especially if the weather is nice outside. It's a good way to get some sun and fresh air.

Love mowing, gardening, planting stuff, seeing everything grow. HATE weed eating. Easily one of the worst household tasks I have to do but if you don't do it the yard looks terrible. I'd pay somebody to come over and just weed eat if I could.

I can't stand yard work... Just drives me nuts.
That is a large reason why I live in a condo actually...

I hate doing yardwork until I start actually doing it. When stuff starts looking awesome you want to do more and more.

My trap is going to Home Depot in the morning and getting a little too excited. I ended up bringing home $300 worth of flowers, mulch, trees, weedkiller, topsoil, etc, and then trying to do it all in one day. My muscles are throbbing today :D

Gas/2 stroke don't matter. It's the fact that you are covered in weed giblets that hit you in the face, eye, get in your hair, under the collar of shirt, in your socks, ect and they just itch sting and make me break out in a rash every damn time. When it's 95 degrees and humid as shit out I don't like putting on full sleeved shirts or pants because then I'm drenched in sweat and half heat stroked when I'm done.

I've got 1.5 acres of ground to maintain. Trees, flower beds, utilities, ect. Plus I'm surrounded by open fields and woods so I have lots of stuff trying to constantly invade me.

Tip- point the right side of the weeder head down so the junk flies away from you :D

I like doing yard work, but I don't have a big yard.

I also have 4 kids to help out if needed.

I do love plant design/landscaping...

I got hit in the eye this weekend weeding next to the brick walls of my basement. A small pebble hit the wall, ricocheted and hit me right in the eye. Luckily it didn't do any permanent damage, but I'm wearing goggles from now on.

I should probably be wearing a mask too, for days afterward I am coughing up and sneezing black gunk.

That only helps to a certain point. And there's times you just have to swing the other way. Wait...wut?
