Heterosexual Pride Parade in RTP

NFS4

No Lifer
I was listening to my favorite radio station this morning, G105, and they're having a Heterosexual Pride Parade to celebrate being straight (I think it's sometime this week or next week).

People were calling in saying how appalling it is and how it is a disgrace. And the head DJ, Bob, was talking about "They have their Gay Pride Parades, why can't we have our Heterosexual Pride Parade?? They flaunt it, why can't we?"

Opinions???😛

the argument is that heterosexuals flaunt it every day. it'd be like having a 'white history' month. since basically the only history taught in the US is 'white history' there isn't a purpose for the month other than to lampoon 'black history' month

I've been waiting for one of these for a while.
And I was also waiting for a cable network for men to come along to compete with Lifetime. Spike is ok but I'm still waiting... 🙂

Funny, and I hope they go through with it.

uhh, no, its totally normal. If people weren't straight, the human existence would end, since no one could have kids.

They weren't saying that being hetero was a disgrace, they were saying that the idea of the parade was.

RE: the white/black issue.. I think people need to stop looking at race and just stick with culture. I guess you can apply that to this homo/hetero thing also... but I wish the gays would stop flaunting this "gay & proud" stuff... I really couldn't care less what you are.

what do you mean by black history? 99% of the time, history is about the history of the united states. and due to the horror of owning slaves, blacks haven't had the chance as much to influence history. and those that have (MLK, Jackie Robinson, Harriet Tubman) are 100% taught in school.

Right, but plenty of people **cough**therepublicanparty**cough** go out of their way to publicly condemn gayness; the "I'm gay and proud" thing is a reaction to that. There was no such thing as Pride Parades until after the Stonewall riots (which were provoked by constant police raids on gay bars).

Homosexuality garners what I would presume (in the absence of an actual report) is a disproportinately high percentage of the media, both in reporting and also in entertainment. I guess this is just the heterosexual response to hearing so much about an issue that affects so few for so long.

Where is the pride in being gay or straight? I never understood it. I am proud of my achievements in everyday life, but not of my sexuality. It's not something I worked for, just something I am.

Exactly. I want my kid to learn about the important people in our history. Most of them are white - some are black. Digging up some obscure black person from history to talk about just because they're black is stupid.

🙂 they should split it down further and have like Zulu history month, etc.

now they just need a "god hates fags" equivalent hate group to jeer at them during the march

Just remember that not everyone that thinks homosexuality is wrong is also a hate mongerer.

Maybe a group on the extreme fringe of the World Population Control movement. 😛

Best response so far, IMHO.

The difference is that heteros aren't harassed for who they are. It's about being proud of who you are when that doesn't necessarily conform to societal norms.

would be the best response only if we lived in a world where gay people didn't have to live in the closet because of a certain atmosphere of intolerance in a society.

I never understood politics - call me naive or whatever... you have these 2 major parties who have their beliefs and way of doing things. If I were a democrat, I'd be voting for the democratic nominee... but that just means I'm voting for "my team", and not necessarily for their beliefs or what the individual has planned for the country. Same applies to things like this... if you say the republican party is suppressing gays... and I happened to be republican for other reasons, does that mean I'm anti-gay ? Should I be ? The republican dude on my left... what does he think about gays ?

I think the Republican vs. Democrat (or any other "party") s#!t is so pointless. Just vote for the best liar ... err... I mean man for the job. Why are they stamped with "republican", "democrat", or otherwise ? Is this what democracy is about ? Choosing teams ?
