Right, but plenty of people **cough**therepublicanparty**cough** go out of their way to publicly condemn gayness; the "I'm gay and proud" thing is a reaction to that. There was no such thing as Pride Parades until after the Stonewall riots (which were provoked by constant police raids on gay bars).
I never understood politics - call me naive or whatever... you have these 2 major parties who have their beliefs and way of doing things. If I were a democrat, I'd be voting for the democratic nominee... but that just means I'm voting for "my team", and not necessarily for their beliefs or what the individual has planned for the country. Same applies to things like this... if you say the republican party is suppressing gays... and I happened to be republican for other reasons, does that mean I'm anti-gay ? Should I be ? The republican dude on my left... what does he think about gays ?

I think the Republican vs. Democrat (or any other "party") s#!t is so pointless. Just vote for the best liar ... err... I mean man for the job. Why are they stamped with "republican", "democrat", or otherwise ? Is this what democracy is about ? Choosing teams ?
GOP platform draft seeks gay marriage ban.

This is what I was referring to.

I'm surprised noone from the GOP has introduced a Re-Education bill for those who have homosexual tendencies.

I can think of any number of things more productive(and this would even include posting on ATOT) than to flaunt that I like girls, but hey... It's not my time... Bob's a dumbass, btw. But, to his credit, he's less boring than many other DJs. He annoys me a lot more. Most DJs are just a noise in the background for me.

you cannot separate yourself from the fact that in some way, you are in fact supporting an anti gay agenda when you vote republican. its just the way it is. your vote condones their platform. esp on an issue their voters have never punished them for using during campaigns

Where is the pride in being gay or straight? I never understood it. I am proud of my achievements in everyday life, but not of my sexuality. It's not something I worked for, just something I am.

Best response so far, IMHO.
The difference is that heteros aren't harassed for who they are. It's about being proud of who you are when that doesn't necessarily conform to societal norms.

I am not proud to be gay. But I am proud of the people who made it possible for me to say that I am gay. Sometimes you just have to take life like it is, and if you have the chance, change it for the better. Those people who step out and make those changes, should be proud of what they have done. But me, as a person, I have done nothing to further these advancements in equal rights. It's not that I don't feel the need to, I just haven't had the chance yet. But dressing up like a fool and acting like a fool is in no way giving justice to the people who have given their time, and even their lives, in the pursuit of equal rights for gays. There is no need to shout it out on the streets. If you are gay, than be gay and live your life. To try to force everyone to accept you by dressing up like madonna with a sign that says "We're here and we're Queer" is pointless and damaging to the cause. If I am wrong, than I am wrong. That's just how I feel.

For every gay & lesbian that "flaunts it" I'm sure there are a hundred that live normal, pedestrian, "hetero-friendly" lives. Honestly, these straight pride people really need to get a life.

Funny, and I hope they go through with it.

People were calling in saying how appalling it is and how it is a disgrace.

uhh, no, its totally normal. If people weren't straight, the human existence would end, since no one could have kids.

Why would someone have a pride parade for being normal? How can someone be proud of being boring?

If you have never been to a gay pride parade, stfu. I'm straight, but I marched in the Seattle one during a union internship, and I had a blast. There was all kinds of weirdness going, Dykes on Bikes :D, GWAR impersonators showed up! Leather everywhere, even topless lesbians!!!!! Seriously, if there is a pride parade in your city just go there and watch the craziness, it beats the hell out of most stupid parades.

Three men in a bar boasting of their accomplishments...

I am very proud of the gold medal I won in the olympics. I took my god given talent and worked extremely hard for four years to do it...

I am proud of my entrepreneurial accomplishments. I took a storefront operation with 3 employees and turned it into a multi-national corporation with 500 employees in only 3 years. I never worked so hard in my life, but it was highly reqarding...

I am proud of my gayness. It takes a lot of guts to look at a hairy butt and get turned on...

And? A big part of pride parades are just to go have fun. Another is to bring gays out of the wood work so they can meet. Would it be less bothersom to you dullards if it was called a "Gays come on and act crazy and hook up in a non-threatening, but public atmosphere?"

but the net effect of your support is gay oppression. i guess that sacrifice of a whole group of people is alright to you?

which is kind of strange really.

taxes? or people...

what matter more?

its like voting for the anti civil rights candidate in 1960 because you support less railway subsidies.

To me I don't see why it should even be a issue the federal Government has no reason to be involved in it.

There are so many issues that are more important to me than gay rights that it doesn't really register on the candidate comparison.

Yup.

See above, the GOPs toying with a no-gay-marriage plank. This is why I singled them out.

Then you should vote for John Kerry. He has said he doesn't support gay marriage? What does this mean? No federal government involvement. Bush wants to write a ban into the Constitution, very much involving the federal government.

How is not allowing them to marry oppression? They can't legally marry now. Nothing is changing! I don't see how this is oppressing them.
