WTF is wrong with people? Why would you want to overdoes yourself, leaving your daughter behind? The fame, the money, it was all there. What's with some successful people having mental toughness that of teaspoon?

RIP Heath, you dumbass :(

Agreed 1000%
I don't get why this happens with such frequency. He had everything in the palm of his hand and fucking blew it.

Ugggg... this is like people who frickin' win the lottery and completely blow it afterwards.

I'm having a very hard time finding sympathy for Ledger, even though he was hardly a celebrity whom I despised. I just feel bad for anyone who depended on him. Fame and money out the whazoo... just to die from drugs.

But to be fair, we might not have the whole story. Maybe getting into the Joker character screwed him up big time in the head? Or something else? Depression from something traumatic that happened in his life completely unrelated and un-fixable by money?

ARGGGH!

early un-verified evidence points to sleeping pills/pain-killers. meaning severe depression, suicide.

We shouldn't speculate at this point and brand the guy before the body is cold, but people need to realize a few things:

-Depression can be serious business. Most people understand this only when it's too late.

-if this is the case, there's no reason to label him as a druggie. you'd be putting him in the same boat as one particular OT troll (shens or otherwise), and no one deserves that. suicide via sleeping pills/pain killers /= Hendrix-style OD.

What you should take from this is that "having everything" doesn't necessarily make you happy. It affects people from all social and economic backgrounds.

Its a tired cliche...but there is truth in the old saying that money can't buy happiness. A good friend of mine has a brother in law that was the caretaker of this old rich woman who apparently was heir to the the guy that invented penecilin (sp?). She never had to work at day in her life. She had one daughter who tragically suffered a serious brain injury in a car accident. She pretty much drank herself to death after that.

It's pretty tough to overdose on pills. And that I DO know what I'm talking about there, from a friend who's an ER doctor. You can't really do it on accident.

Zinfamous, I'll agree that depression is misunderstood, but automatically claiming that everyone who kills themselves is brutally depressed and unable to pull themselves out of it is also a bit short-sighted. Some people are merely weak and pathetic, and it's the easy way out. We don't know which was the case here.

I thought ATOTers found suicide (if that's indeed what it ends up being) as a weakness? And that they shouldn't garner any sympathy for that weakness? :Disgust;

Was he found naked in Mary Kate Olsen's apartment? Somebody told me that. The rumors are flying!!! This is so exciting, makes me forget all about the world's economy crumbling around us!

edit: same source is claiming its a suicide...I'll wait and see on that one.

That's not really a big deal. Movie stars have their own circle of rich friends, and I'm sure the Olsen twins have properties all over the world that they let their friends use when needed.

As for suicide rumors, they are most likely true. It's very hard to "accidentally" overdose on sleeping pills.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I wonder if playing the Joker like, messed him up somehow? The Wikipedia article on the movie mentioned that he basically locked himself in a hotel room for a month trying to "get into" the character, he stopped being able to sleep for more than an hour at a time, etc... I mean, it's possible he was drug addled and crazy before doing that, but I can't imagine it helped.

interesting note...

Actors often fuck up their lives in order to get in character, not necessarily in a deadly fashion, but still, so I guess this is a possible thought.

That's actually the first thing that popped into my head. I had heard that he went pretty hardcore with the "training" to become the Joker. I've met some actors that do all sorts of things to get "in character" and it wouldn't surprise me if this type of work and perhaps some latent mental issues (possibly?) could combine to result in suicide.

I really enjoyed his movies. Bummer.

that's a shame. didn't read the whole thread so not sure if it was mentioned, but usually when someone goes with the pill route, when they know someone is going to show up soon that people call it a cry for help. very sad :/

First Brad Renfro...now Heath...decent young actors. :(
Sad to hear about this. Death comes in threes, I wonder who is next.

That's a really stupid saying.

No kidding, eventually a third will happen. Then a fourth, etc.

Possible, some actors take method acting to extremes. Daniel Day Lewis is another great method actor. I hope he never takes a drug addiction role.

Herd it on the radio about 2 hours, ago , screamed "wtf?" out loud. I new he just had a kid and was confused.

Its a shame, so young. Loved him in "A Knights Tale".
