whatever happened to personal responsibility?

You take the Britney's and Lindsay's of the world and make them millionaires when they can't even drive yet and you honestly expect them to understand personal responsibility?

It's still early and we don't know for sure what the cause of death was so I guess my post was premature but if preliminary reports are correct, Heath's death is just one of a long line of drug abuse overdose deaths in Hollywood.

my friend txt'd me around 4 this afternoon and I had to ask him if he was serious at that point I hit up cnn.com and learned it was real, so sad.

a 16y/o should have SOME idea of personal responsibility. sure they may not look as far ahead as say... a 30y/o investing for retirement, but it's not hard to realize "drugs are bad, mmmmkay?"

You're saying a 16 year old is honestly unaware that drugs are bad, drinking and driving is bad, etc...? When they go out and buy 3 houses that they'll never use, that's one thing. But don't tell me a girl or guy in his mid to late teens can't figure out the basic stuff.

That's the way Hollywood works, they coddle these pretty faces.... that's why it's kosher to have 3 personal assistants, security, hair stylist, etc, etc, so you can not worry about the day to day crap that the rest of us enjoy.

I can't imagine being in that position, photographers hounding your every move, shows like Entertainment Weekly, magazines like US Weekly, People, all that crap (Stars! They take craps just like the rest of us! They drink coffee just like us!)... I guess celebrities either get used to it or just crash and burn.

Wow, so many people, so quick to condemn this man.

It's on the record that he has a history of health issues due to problems sleeping when he is working on a role.

Specifically regarding the Joker role:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11...iesspecial/04lyal.html

It is a physically and mentally draining role ? his Joker is a ?psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy? he said cheerfully ? and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

?Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,? he said. ?I couldn?t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.? One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Until more details come out to the contrary, I will give this man the benefit of the doubt and believe the preliminary reports from the Police: that it was an accidental tragedy from sleeping pills.

The problem is this:

A. He was found naked, on the floor. Most people I know like to sleep at least in a bed. I really doubt that he was trying to sleep.

B. I really doubt that this was an accident. You either want to go to sleep (take one, maybe two, but not enough to kill you, obviously), or you want to die. There really isn't a middle ground on this one...

C. I'm not out to condemn Heath Ledger himself, more the ludicrous bubble that surrounds Hollywood and the demands that the "system" (meaning the public, and press) puts on the celebrities. It's a terrible combination.

actually he was found naked in bed. there are people that sleep naked in bed.

Dr Drew was just on CNN talking about it. I didn't get to hear the whole thing before they cut to the pregnant dead marine story, but he said some nice things about that actor.

What terrible news. 🙁

Even worse he has a baby daughter, but likely foreshadowed his own death despite her.

Last year Ledger said he was ready to die because he could live on in his child.

"Having a child changes every aspect of your life - for the better, of course. The sacrifices are large, but what you get in return is even bigger than the sacrifices you make. I feel, in a sense, ready to die because you are living on in your child," Ledger told In Touch Weekly.

Honestly, I hope it's accidental, because if he killed himself and he has a daughter, that is so selfish. I don't care how much he thought his life sucked, he had an obligation to be there for his daughter and not betray her like that.

someone told me about it (b4 i had heard about it from the news) and my immediate response was "did he OD or something?" anyhow.....

may he

They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said pills fear found near the body.

I know I'm an inhuman monster or whatever, but if this was suicide, I feel a lot less sorry for the guy. What the hell was so unbearable about his life?

Depression doesn't really have anything to do with being rich or famous.

Would you want him around your daughter?

I don't have a daughter, but if I did, I'd want myself around her, and not take the easy way out because I thought my life sucked. Once you have a kid, it's not about you anymore. He just fvcked up his daughter's life big time for no good reason as far as I am concerned.

Alright, so I've been obsessing over this for no particular reason. Apparently the rumor that the apartment belonged to Mary Kate Olsen was false. He really didn't have any kind of history that would lead one to believe that he would take drugs or behave badly. From what I've read, he seemed to be a pretty down-to-earth guy. I would guess if it was a suicide, it would have something to do with the movie role and/or his split with Michelle.

Either way, it's extremely sad and difficult for me to write it off as just another young Hollywood actor OD'ing 'as usual'.
