Renaming, if true, is just plain idiotic.
Careful there. There are a few folks who run around the forums and lecture the mass how we shouldn't dare to question a vendor having "control" over its products. Regrettably (and predictably) such annoyance only comes for their preferred vendors only, though.

I'm with you, on the renaming possibility. Those of us who are honest and care about our wallets can keep the integrity, thus we can criticize any product. I hope 1) this renaming rumor turns out to be false or 2) 6870 performs significantly better than 5870. I will wait for the real thing and real reviews. I believe honest reviewers will tell us any shady tactic from any vendor.

AMD have proven themselves to be masters of misinformation and misdirection over the past two generations. No question there.
I feel very much the same.

So many diff specs flying around the web it's anybodies guess on performance, naming, price points, when, etc....Another couple of weeks and we'll see how things turn out.

I just heard that AMD hired Intel to produce the GPUs on their 32nm process. :sneaky:

Sounds funny but it's never out of the realm of possibility. Trade FAB time for video related IP would be a win for both AMD and Intel. At the same time Intel could claim they are helping their competition and look to be the good guy in the eyes of the courts 🙂

Basically, what this and every other AMD 6x00 rumor has showed is that we:

don't know the exact specs
don't know the exact release date
don't know the exact model naming systems

Other than that though, everything else is crystal clear.

6800 Series (Barts)

Because all the facts floating around are incorrect.

Or the fact the 68xx could be cayman, come on people with the salt required i woudln't be surpised if it turns out that cayman would be the first then barts in november.

EDIT: Didn't see the picture above, hmmm we don't actually have solid confirmation except the GPU names really.

From retail sources, low availability until December confirmed, at least in Europe but I believe globally most probably.

Bah! I need a new GPU now. I know if i buy a 5870 now, at XMas they'll be down to $225 or something absurd like that. 🙁
