I got shingles a bunch of years ago, when I was probably 31 or 32. It sucked. It was a small patch on my upper left side, no larger than 2" square, and I could barely do anything. Putting on a shirt felt like rubbing my side with coarse steel wool. I also missed out on a month snowboarding, so that sucked too.

Per the CDC:

Who Should Get Shingrix?​

Adults 50 years and older should get two doses of Shingrix, separated by 2 to 6 months. Adults 19 years and older who have or will have weakened immune systems because of disease or therapy should also get two doses of Shingrix. If needed, people with weakened immune systems can get the second dose 1 to 2 months after the first.
You should get Shingrix even if in the past you:
  • Had shingles
  • Received Zostavax*
  • Received varicella (chickenpox) vaccine
There is no maximum age for getting Shingrix.
If you had shingles in the past, Shingrix can help prevent future occurrences of the disease. There is no specific length of time that you need to wait after having shingles before you can receive Shingrix, but generally you should make sure the shingles rash has gone away before getting vaccinated.
Chickenpox and shingles are related because they are caused by the same virus (varicella-zoster virus). After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant (inactive) in the body. It can reactivate years later and cause shingles.
Shingrix is available in doctor’s offices and pharmacies.
If you have questions about Shingrix, talk with your healthcare provider.
* A shingles vaccine called zoster vaccine live (Zostavax) is no longer available for use in the United States, as of November 18, 2020. If you had Zostavax in the past, you should still get Shingrix. Talk to your healthcare provider to determine the best time to get Shingrix.
 
Husband and I got Shingrix 2nd shot and flu shot last Fri. Only got those 2 as I had heard so many tales of Shingrix 2nd shot being a real pain that I didn't want to load up with any more just in case. No issues with either. Arm was a bit sore for a couple of days if I poked it, but that's all. Getting RSV and covid shots this Fri then pneumonia next week. Should keep us healthy through the holiday season. We've both avoided getting covid or shingles or RSV or flu or pneumonia so far and sure would like to continue that way.

BTW get an N95 mask and keep it in your car for what you deem high risk places.

Another proven layer of protection when you feel you need it!

Right wing media is incredibly effective at radicalizing people and has been beating the drum for a guy like Trump to come along for 30 years now.
 
I got the original two dose shot and got one booster. I also had COVID before any vaccine was available. I need to schedule some time to go get another booster as well as the flu shot but I keep forgetting to do it.

I may have to look into the shingles shot too from reading in this thread. I'm only 43 but I still have scars from when I had chicken pox as a kid so it's definitely something that's always on the back of my mind as a possibility.

Interesting. I was born before 1980 but never had chicken pox (that I know of) and instead got the Varicella vaccination when it became available. Guess I need to check with my Dr about whether getting the shingles vax is right for me.

Got the newest Pfizer COVID and old fart flu shot today. Grocery store with pharmacy (which I think is linked to CVS) had both Moderna and Pfizer on a walk-in basis. Wife got her Pfizer COVID also, as she got her flu at her regular docs a couple of weeks ago.

Through the VA I got the latest pneumonia* shot (my third), and shingles x2, earlier this year.

* Nurse at the VA explained that they came up with a 3rd version of the pneumonia vaccine to combat the anti-vaxxers who refused the COVID vaccine. This 3rd version targeted the pneumonia strains that were killing COVID patients.
 
Kaiser just sent an email letting people know the new COVID vaccine is available. I just tried to make an appointment at all locations in my area and there's NOTHING! WTF Kaiser. I might just have to call my primary care doc to find out WTF!
Edit: must have something to do with them going on strike I guess.

Kind of weird. Got the newest Moderna last night and the only side effect I had show up was some pain at the injection site, but now 24 hours later starting to feel some minor cold symptoms show up. Still a lot less than the first two shots I got back in 21, but those came on quite a bit quicker, more like 12 hours after getting the shots.
 
Just got the Moderna yesterday. I have been Pfizer up to this point. Figured I would "shake it up a little." Arm is sore and a little tired, but that's it.
