Would be a much larger margin if there weren't so many American geeks here. The penalties in the US are stricter than anywhere else and geeks tend not to go to the kind of parties where drugs are available.

It's illegal because there's no incentive for legislators to legalize it. Cigarette and tobacco companies lobby congressmen and have their products taxed. There isn't an MJ company or rich individual who is handing out tons of money to congressmen and is paying taxes on the drugs they sell.
