Wow, I'm somewhat surprised so far, 23 say the have and 13 say they haven't.

I assumed that it was just a misconception that so many have tried it but so far the results say otherwise.

Even if 1,000 people answered the poll, it's still such a small sample size that it doesn't really mean anything outside of ATOT.

No, actually I think the poll is pretty good. Computer nerds aren't exactly known for being big potheads, so the numbers out in the real world might be even higher.

I disagree. Lets say 100 people respond to this poll. 75% say yes, 25% say no. Now, go poll another website. You may find of 100 people, 99% say no, while 1% say yes. Which one is more valid? With such small sample sizes it doesn't really mean much of anything.

I would recommend viewing the History Channel doc called "Hooked: Illegal Drugs in America and How They Got That Way"

It goes through MJ, Opiates, Cocaine, LSD, and Ecstasy.

very informational.

You said 1000. That's how much lot's of public opinon polls use.

I don't see why it's even illegal really..
It's illegal because in the 1930's a small company named Dupont invented a miracle synthetic (NYLON tm) they wanted to sell to the US NAVY as a substitute for the hemp that was used for rope.
Due to the fact that hemp was commonly grown all over thwe midwest, in order to do so, they needed to criminilize it's use, in all it's facets.
They first started the myth of the "Stoned Out of His Mind Negro" in order to create a public hysteria that would enable the politicians, who were for sale as much then as now, to create the prohibition that we currently enjoy.

The "tar" aspect isn't even as bad as commercial tobacco, and when properly "vaporized" doesn't exist at all.

< Works with several A.I.D.S. patients ( who have prescriptions) alongside my roommate who is an RN in a caregiver position.
Their lives are much improved with their STATE LEGAL consumption of marijuana, as opposed to how they were without it.

you'd be surprised. a strong majority have.

What's even more surprising is the current percentages who still use it from time to time.

Are you high right now? I said even IF 1000 people answered the poll in the first post, it wouldn't mean anything.
In my second post, I was setting a different example, of 100 people, which is more likely than 1,000 people actually responding, unless this post actually doesn't get locked.

Asking people on ATOT if they've tried marijuana is like going to McDonalds and asking people if they think they are healthy.

Nah, never tried, and don't care really if people do. If I remember my days back when I was all about politics, it's really illegal because it's just too easy to make and can't be taxed like ciggarettes or alcohol.

Right.. I'm sorry you can't comprehend statistics.

Maybe this example will help you, although I doubt it:
In the last election, most online polls, including those on ATOT, favored Kerry. Who won? Small online polls do not and cannot represent the population. It's that simple.

The fact is that the POPULAR VOTE still favored Kerry and that Bush won by winning the vote in the ELECTORAL COLLEGE. Remember the debacle that was Florida in 2000?
Given that more people vote for American Idol than take part in the National Election might tell you something as well.
If this thread stays unlocked and the sample size grows , you'll get better stats.

Nice try though

Except Bush did win the popular vote, at least according to CNN. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/president/
62,040,606 Bush
59,028,109 Kerry

My example is still valid. ATOT wanted Kerry by a significant margin over Bush. What really happened? It was damn near split, with Bush coming out on top.
So, currently 66+% of ATOT says they have tried marijuana. Does that mean 66% of the US has? No.

Nice try though

Here's another example:
Polling 1,000 emo kids asking them if they've ever had suicidal thoughts. Lets say, 95% of them said they do. Can we then conclude that 95% of the population has suicidal thougts because 950/1000 people said they do?

I haven't tried marijuana and I don't intend to. I have no problem with people using it. The only thing I am disputing is lokiju's quote "I assumed that it was just a misconception that so many have tried it but so far the results say otherwise." Hell I am in college I know a lot of people use it. I know people who have over 3.5 GPAs that use it. I'm not knocking it at all. Just saying that this poll & any other small sample size or online poll does not represent what the population follows.

I smoked enough dope to construct a raft that would safely float some cubans over here when I was in College and High School.
