Alright, let me get some things straight here.

1. I do not want children.
2. I am not sure that I want the procedure done because I don't know enough about it. This does not change #1.
3. The "If it turns out by some strange turn of events..." is, I suppose, mathematically possible, much like it is possible for all of the molecules in the floor and Earth below me to teleport to the moon and for me to fall to China. Possible, but it's not happening.
4. I did indeed ask for opinions. Perhaps there is some side to this whole thing that I haven't looked at. I don't think there is, but there's always that possibility.
5. Though my mind is made up as much as it can be with the knowledge that I have of the whole situation, I appreciate mosh's posts in this thread. It shows caring and compassion that she would bring up these counter-points. Any opinion at all is welcome in this thread as far as I am concerned. I can read around the posts that I don't care about.

I hope that clears some stuff up. Let me be clear though. From everything that I know about the procedure, every consequence that I've thought about over the past few years, and every bit of information that I've gotten from other people, I do not want children.

Whether I have the help of a vasectomy is yet to be determined.

I was on the verge of getting one, but the wife developed some kind of reproductive system disease (not cancer or anything, thank God) and she had to get part of her ovaries removed. Since she was going for surgery anyway, we decided to also get her tubes cut & tied. It would have been very risky for her to ever have kids with that condition anyway, so this was a safer method for us.

my aunt and a girl i used to know both had the same situation.

so i guess this must be pretty common.

That's true. There are way too many kids born into bad situations.

My wife actually asked me how I felt about this because one of my older brothers had one. I didn't really care, but she decided to look into it herself to see what type of side effects there are. After looking around, she discovered men who had serious infections resulting in "the entire removal of the area." That would suck. There were also several other's who had infections, severe pain, and/or had to go back in several times due to other problems. Obviously, this does not represent the majority of patients. It is actually somewhat rare to have any major problems, but thought you might want to know.

If you're interested, I can have my wife look up the sites she found if you'd like to read the stories yourself.
