No wonder you like OSX so much.

Vista was a piece of crap at launch. Windows 7 has been much smoother.

Anyway, OSX is good but I don't see the point in arguing over which is the better OS now. They've both copied each other so much and adapted their features to accommodate most users. No OS "wins" in every single category. Just use whichever OS works for you. Or multiboot/run VMs and use them all :D

I agree. both OS's are hugley flawed, but my preference is OSX. same as I prefer white chocolate, it's not because it's better, it's because I prefer it. Win 7 is my current windows OS.

Every windows operating system I have ever used, on every system I've ever used it one has crashed and required a re-install at some point.

It appears you are the common theme in these crashing systems.

No, white chocolate is clearly superior.

:D

Just kidding, though I, too, prefer white chocolate (love milk and dark, as well, just not as much).

I just ignore people who express their flat out hate for either OS. Both have strong points and some minor flaws. Minor flaws compared to those of the past versions of Windows and the Mac OS... I'm glad that competition between Apple and Microsoft has produced a decent amount of progress in a relatively short amount of time.

I thought you liked the CLI

I do, but for stuff like browsing the web CLI wont cut it.

I would say the most common theme is Windows.

True enough.

Also White chocolate is clearly the way forward.

True. but I'm not replying to you anymore until you reply to you reply to my long explination of the retarded argument you were making about software needs to be good for the planet for it to be a smart purchase.

Smart purchases aren't wasteful spending, shiny baubles are wasteful spending. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just stop pretending like there's more to it than that. You wanted a status symbol and that's who Apple caters to.

yes, you are ignorant. the world doesn't rely on windows. sorry to burst your bubble. as i said, people use whatever is put in front of them. if windows went away and we went back to using dos people would adapt. the world doesn't stop for a front end.

because it's a great free movie editing program? it's quite easy to use and apparently you can import your movies straight off the camera? (note, i haven't tried this, just going by a quick search) worst case, you can always convert it. i choose my operating system based on the operating system, because there are always ways to do most anything on any of them. i happen to like working in os x, almost as much as windows 7, so i would simply find a way to make it do whatever i needed to do. there was a point you couldn't watch dvds in windows without purchasing a program to do it, nobody dropped windows because of it.

the problem is that it's not a toy, and most people don't have to use anything else. you don't HAVE to use windows to do what you want, it's just easier to edit avchd video on windows. it's a very powerful operating system, hell, it's based on unix. bfdd is just trolling, quite obviously.

Erik, like I said you are fucking wrong. Unless you actually believe no big business or no government runs on Windows. Or are you forgetting that 90% of personal computers run Windows? Seriously shut the fuck up you moron.

Neckarb, so lack of hardware support can be a benefit, but not extra hardware support?

No that's not it, I want superior software. I don't know why you can't understand that.

Yes it can, it means near perfect hardware/ software synergy.

If Apple offered such a superior product it would dominate the market. They don't, so they don't. I fail to see how that is hard to understand. You can't argue something is superior when the market has dictated over the years it is not.

Justin Beiber is a superior musician because he sells a lot of records.

Your argument, not mine.

it wouldn't matter if 99.9% ran on windows, as long as there was an alternative. the world simply wouldn't stop, it would just adapt to something new. for what most people do at work on their computers they don't even need windows, it just happens to come with the computer. if ms office disappeared today, people would just use something else tomorrow. quite simply, the world doesn't need windows, it just uses it because it's there.

also, nice name calling. it must hurt to be so wrong.

you really know nothing about computers and the history of personal computing do you? you know this started out as a tech forum right? tech talk still does go on here, to some extent.

Aston Martin offer superior cars, but they don't dominate the market...

Blu Ray is superior to DVD's but it doesn't dominate the market.

People like cheap.

BD, sure. It also took DVD many years to overtake VHS. BD is actually on a faster progression than was DVD, fyi.

as for Aston Martin...superior compared to what car? and in what metric?

They are fantastic cars, but there are plenty of cars out there that are superior depending on what you're looking at.

I don't know just picked my favourite car, they are superior, say to the BMW 3 series, which is the most popular car in the UK, superior in style, speed etc etc. But inferior in price, like Mac ---> Windows. (IMO)

Office isn't Windows. Office is a piece of software that runs inside an OS. OBVIOUSLY the world would eventually move on, but shit would be fucked immediately and for awhile. I have no idea how you can even try to down play that. Put the kool-aid down son.

They aren't comparable products. Aston Martin does not offer a superior product in their category. In the luxury performance sports car market they aren't the most luxurious and they aren't the best performing. The best performing is a cheap old American muscle car and the most luxurious comes from Italy.

That's not the biggest problem with your argument.

Very true, and I'm saying Mac is in a different category to Windows.

Windows is an operating system designed to run on anything, for anyone, cheap easy utilitarian software for the masses

OSX is an operating system designed to run on specific hardware, mainly workstations for people who want to pay extra for a superior experience.

Edit: On a side note, a Bugatti Veyron SS will out perform "a cheap old American muscle car and the most luxurious comes from Italy."

A Bugatti Veyron SS is a different category of car so what is your point? First you're talking about luxury sports cars, now you're talking about a super car. Make your mind up.

Also, car analogies don't work for the OS so pick a new one.

They aren't in different categories though and the car analogies still don't work so stop using them. They work if you're talking about lets say the MBP vs Dell/Lenovo/HP/etc, but not the OS they are using. The better analogy would be the fuel they run on, diesel or gasoline.
