cuz if that's it then I got no arguments. The envy line IS great for games and are far superior to MBP's for that purpose.

Well, yeah. It's obviously a tradeoff, but if the question is, "is there a laptop with comparable build quality to a MBP, a great screen, etc" then the answer is, yes. Also keep in mind that hardly anyone really buys 17" laptops, and the Envy 14 has good (but not great) battery life, making it easily comparable to a 14" MBP.

Those ultra powerful Core i5s... lol. It's thin because they use low-mid range hardware. The battery life is again because of the low-mid range hardware.

My priorities are performance ("power") and cost. Yours are "thinness" and "power" and battery life.

Its only an unwinnable argument here because for some insane reason you believe an Intel Atom (netbook) is in the same class as a Core i5 (MBP).

Thinness, power, and battery life is quite important. Read Anand's review of the MBP line and his findings of the battery being constructed in sheets instead of cylinders for maximum battery life in a small space.

There's a reason why his main laptop is a MBP. Apple isn't pulling smoke n mirrors here, its actually a well constructed laptop that I haven't seen replicated yet on the windows platform.

here's my question about the test with the Envy 17, did they do all the same optimizations inside Windows 7 that don't come set out of the box, but are in OSX as well and configured for longer battery life? Everyone knows Apple laptops cannot use more than 25% of their CPU power while in battery mode, there's also tons of other settings that are configurable as well including turning down the wifi antennas power. We were able to squeeze just over another hour of battery life out of my roommates laptop playing with the settings.

My roommate just ran 4 tests on his Late 08 MBP (early unibody, removeable battery). He ran CineBench (a cross platform benchmarking tool)
He scored the following CPU scores;
Plugged, battery in: 1.32
Plugged, battery out: 1.32
Unplugged, battery in: 1.32
Unplugged, battery out: 0 (obviously )

So, that puts the 25% power (or even reduced power) theory to bed when on battery or plugged in without battery.

Well I was trying to find the article I could have swore I read which made the claim, but can't find it. Guess I was wrong. I could have swore the CPU was mad throttled when we were playing with settings to try and get similar battery life in Windows on my buddies MBP. Probably wrong, my bad.

Depending on what computer you go from and too it would be an upgrade, particularly if you (like me) think that the ability to run OSX (propperly) is an additional feature, worthy of an upgrade on it's own....

It is a common theory that I have seen kicked around, and maybe once upon a time (pre-intel) Apple did it, or maybe it was a rumor that got started when there was a possibilty of a G5 PowerBook. Who knows, but if it was ever true, it certainly isn't now.

That's true, but I'm not arguing about the greater implications on humanity, when choosing my operating system. My life is improved by having OSX in it over windows, would my life end without either? No... But I would feel like I was suffering through windows again if there was no OSX.

While I don't agree with the pricing, you pay the extra to use a system where the software has been developed to run specifically with that hardware, meaning (generally) it just works, so to sum up you pay more for a Mac because it's a Mac. I for one think it's worth the money though I don't think that I normally pay $700 extra...
