lol... i was wondering that myself.. i guess its so you can "help fund the project"
and make the game what it can be..

LOL... its a poor model.... pay to play alpha.. but free to play later on...

but then that begs the question why does a game funded by a massive company (SOE) need to be crowd-funded?

Reposting what I put the first few days of this thread in Spring. Don't wanna say I called it but......yeah. I knew without Sequisha or others involved, this was going to be a massive failure.

"I'm hoping SOE has some people involved from previous like-minded projects to help guide them away from huge issues in gameplay, IE player goals and "culture" in a zombie apocalypse-based game.

Luckily, I have a classmate whose family has relations very high up inside SOE and I'm hoping I can introduce those contacts to a few people from Epoch's Mod and DayZ Original (most are incredibly well-known within that community) to give some feedback in order to make this game what DayZ should have been. There is a lot to learn from those who spent two years making Epoch's mod and offshoot mods like new maps."

can anyone explain why the early access costs money but the game will be free to play when it releases?

It's nothing more than a subsidy for continued development. Like any kickstarter, anyone who wants to contribute to the development of the game can do so.

Plus, I get something out of it that will stay with my account forever.

Dat flannel shirt, yo.

I like how you've declared an objective failure of a game that's in its 3rd day of alpha release.

There's a patch starting in a few minutes.

http://www.reddit.com/r/h1z1/comments/2ssjba/game_update_will_take_place_at_630pm_pst_and_have/

This game update will take place at 6:30pm PST and have an approximately 90 minute downtime.
• Changes to loot and item spawn/respawn
• Hunger and thirst vitals have been decelerated. You don't get hungry and Thirsty as fast now!
• Dew collectors and rabbit traps should function on live properly now
• Battle Royale: Some loot items we're blocked from being collected. This has been corrected.
• Battle Royale: Some messages were being spammed excessively. This has been corrected.
• Battle Royale: The contents of airdrops have been fixed and now have the appropriate BR style loot
• Battle Royale: Fixed an issue with the mysterious "crafting ingredient" bag appearing when a player dies
• Adjusted some foraging rules
• The houses in Lone Pine Development have had their placements corrected
• Fixed some areas where players were getting stuck (hardware store, shelves, etc)

Its too bad you just can't have Frostbite engine using Battlefield mechanics running DayZ-like gameplay. All these copy cats have some improvements, but just looking at the videos none of them seem to fun. The only thing wrong with DayZ mod was bugs and performance. Dont really need to do too much more except add an end game for single player, and multiplayer is just PvP.

H1Z1 seemed to have to most promise because SOE was doing it, but it looks like suits are ruining it.

Considering that there are hundreds of thousands of purchases on the first day (or so), according to an SOE buddy of mine, I wouldn't say that anyone's ruining anything.

Especially since only less than half of one percent are asking for refunds. The game community so far are very involved with feedback to Smeds. Smeds is El Presidente and he's busting his ass to get feedback from the community and make it count. He's even going as far as asking what features the community would like to see in an effort to build a game that the community wants to play.

SOE's doing it right. Too bad nobody's giving them credit for their efforts.

What don't you like?

Boring. Ran around for 5 hours picking up a few items, a bunch of berries and killing a couple zombies. Just doesn't seem to have any point to play past that at least on PVE server. PVP server i guess, but I would rather do a fps pvp game with better mechanics to the fight than this game.

Yeah the game is also lacking any large towns and other places of interest like DayZ has. I think so far Cherno looks a lot better and is more fun than what Sony has created. But we'll see what they do in the coming months since this thing is still in the alpha stage. A game like this should only be PVP though, dunno why they even bothered with PVE.

Well I have to say this sounded promising but videos of it look really bad, it looks so utterly bland, and the controversy around the lies about not being able to buy weapons and ammo spell nothing but trouble for the future of this game.

On the other hand I've gotten back into PS2 a little bit recently and it seems to have improved, so maybe about 2-3 years after launch this will be a good game, who knows.

Because retards like to pay to test games.

How is it retarded to play a game that is fully playable right now..PLUS they ad more stuff to it? To me it was a great purchase, having lots of fun with it right now.

Don't play on pve servers, no real point. The game is meant to be a survival game from the start.

I played 4 for hours straight yesterday, between gathering stuff, and crafting, i stole a car when guy got out to go in a building, rode down street and ran right into a car with other people and we all died in explosion. lol They was all yelling in voice chat "WTF!".

I found out how to make a few traps..some are bugged, but the stick trap one works on other players..can't wait to trick someone into chasing me into it. :D

The only downside to game atm is lack of game world content, lots of stuff in it for sure, but lots is just fillers atm till they put more in. Apparently they have a huge patch for it going in sometime in next couple months that puts in towns, more roads, wildlife.

Look guys, if you don't like that game simply because its not the type you like, that is fine. But simply dismissing it because of something you read, or stupid "I hate the developer" is pointless gibberish unless you actually play it or wait for release. The whole weapons ammo drop is a non-issue in the game. It has zero impact on the game.

The game has pretty much everything you wish dayz had and functions close to the core game mechanics.

The map is initially 8KM square. As the game progresses, the devs are going to expand the map and add to what's already there.

Be patient. The very content you're looking for is coming. :)

Anyone have luck finding ammo, I seem to stumble across tons of guns that are empty.

No, it's not pay to win, and we've already addressed that at length in this thread.

Some people will whine and complain no matter what is said or fixed. Some people will promote FUD just because they're angry. Hell, the guy who wrote this article isn't even a good writer. He's just pointlessly mad or writing an opinion editorial in a negative light because negative reviews always get more hits and therefore more advertisement money.

LOL The game engine is already infinitely (even with its minor bugs) better than what you see and experience in day Z standalone. However as others have stated this game is in lacking content and in overall polish in its alpha stage but that is to be expected. Final retail should be light years ahead of Day Z when all is said and done.

You sound like the same people who told me Wildstar was going to be the next WoW. How is that game going, by the way? It's not hard to see trends in major developers. If you've played a sony game in the last 3 years, you would have known there was almost zero way (aside from a MASSIVE pushback from consumers) they wouldn't allow in purchasable goods that affect personal performance of the consumer.

The sad part is, I think this game still has a better chance than Dayz. DayZ Epoch is clearly the better DayZ version at the moment, but I think people are giving up onDayZ overall due to how long it's taking BI to do things.

I believe the PVE servers while being boring as hell, do serve the purpose of teaching people how to play the game without being constantly ganked. Outside of that there is ZERO reason to play on PVE only servers with these types of games.

I wouldn't know. I didn't like Wildstar at all.

How else would you expect them to monetize their efforts? They spent the time to create something for you to enjoy and they didn't make you pay for it. What else would you want them to do? Pay you to play it, too?

By releasing a solid title for a one-time fee? Even a small monthly fee like 4.99 wouldn't be too bad if they kept updating at a sufficient rate. I'd obviously prefer a one-time fee.

They spent the time to create something for you to enjoy and they didn't make you pay for it.
That's nice, so they made it free to fluff the player numbers in the game and ended up screwing people like me who want a balanced fun environment, with paid content only being cosmetical things like clothing or music/taunts/weapon skins/etc.

SOE should pay you for your effort, anything negative that could be said about this game is just childish complaining in your eyes. Apparently it isn't fair to have an opinion if it isn't positive, heck I guess everyone should just suck it up and smile.
