doesn't count.

eh, if you can't do it and surprise her, you ain't got the ballz. plain and simple.

It really depends on the girl in the end. My GF doesnt have the guts to surprise me with a new CPU, HSF, HDD, Case, Speakers. I am the same with not having the guts to surprise her with a dress. Its a unwritten agreement.
how can you compare the two really?

Why not? Her interests lie in fashion while mine lie in Hardware/electronics. We are talking about the ability to "walk into the other persons territory" and hope to god you dont get murdered during that walk.
her interest lies in fashion? that is her #1 interest?

Nobody said anything about #1 interest. I didnt think i had to be extremely precise on ATOT. In anycase, what i was trying to say was, She likes fasion as much as I do Electronics. The main point of that post was to say that people on both sides usually do not like to venture into a domain where they are not the the most comfortable/knowledgeable in.

Surprises are cool, and if there be a day that she can pick out electronics just as well as I can pick out a dress for example, then cool. But, certainly 1 year isnt long enough to scope out the field. Maybe in a few more.
eh, live with your conservativism

i guess this is why there are so many YAGT's here.

two women here just posted that they would love it if there guys bought them dresses. i'm willing to bet your girl might feel the same way.

go ahead and keep buying your girl gift certificates and kitchen appliances.

I guess you're the type of guy who hands over his testicles to any women who will give some up for you. ;)

well, not on the first date :)

i'm all for helping my fellow man get good lovin' from their women. i think occasional gestures like buying the wife/gf a dress is a good way to keep your woman feeling wanted. that's all.

Meh, in my experience all it means is now you have to take them somewhere even more expensive than the article of clothing so they get a chance to wear it for you. I say make them breakfast in bed. Less expensive, less time intensive, almost 0% failure and of course the best part is they're already in bed to thank you. ;)

I know but a dress just isn't worth the risk. I mean even if it fit perfect, looked great I would still probably get scorned for paying full price. Anyways, shopping is a release for my g/f I would never want to rob her of that. That's why I stick to jewelry and flowers (lilies a must). But of course my g/f's and my idea of a good night is a making a floorbed, having some drinks and watching a movie.

No - you guys just don't understand. Obviously, you are not a typical woman and iamme isn't involved with a typical woman.

Buying a dress for a typical woman without her knowledge is an argument waiting to happen. There is a reason that so many men in this thread won't do it - we get yelled at enough as it is.

2 supposed females on a message board and 1 guy on a message board saying his girlfriend like it, does not mean all females will.

LOL - good job at ignoring the real point and going after something minor that doesn't even matter. I guess you really are a woman.

So is there anything just as good as a dress that could be bought but is easier to shop for? Besides diamonds.

that's an individual thing. personally, and why i started this thread, i would find a new dress from my man a very heartfelt and sexy gesture

You just eliminated one of the biggest "other possibilities" :D

Diamonds arent necessarily easy to shop for. Especially if your girl likes to have nothing worse than E quality (in all categories)

Agreed, by 8 years, that could be a given for many.
