Gun nuts - I need your advice

I haven't clicked on this thread in a while, and now that I have I probably won't again. What a senseless waste

I wouldn't be that judgmental of it, but I don't really understand it either. Things like Glocks and M&Ps are fantastic working tools but they are pretty much completely boring and I don't understand wanting multiples of them. If I were going to spends tens of thousands of dollars on a collection of modern semi-autos, I would at least go for things like high-end 1911s or Sphinxes rather than yet more mass-produced $500 polymer pistols. It also might be fun to drop $1,000 into making a real race gun out of, say, a Glock 34.

In all honesty, most Glock owners won't have tens of thousands of dollars of them.

That said, the gun you own is very subjective.

Glocks just don't feel good in my hand...I haven't shot them all, but the half dozen I have shot felt off.

I like my brother's P223 with ergogrips, I like my CZ P01, I like all my dad's 1911's, in fact the best feeling/shooting gun to me is a 1911. If I wore suits still, I'd consider it a daily carry (not that I would carry everyday).

I've got eight Glock 17s. For a most people, they can buy these at every gun store they visit. But in CA, seven out of those eight are not on the safe handgun roster. So for me to get each one of those Glocks, I had to:

1. Convince/beg an out-of-state FFL to sell to me.
2. Find a CA FFL willing and able to SSE the gun.
3. Have the magazines shipped separately to another out-of state FFL willing to block them.
4. Wait till the CA FFL has an SSE available and coordinate with them for the conversion, which costs an extra $100 per gun.
5. 10 day waiting period and only one handgun per 30 days for maximum inconvenience.

So those eight Glock 17s may seem completely normal to you, but to another CA shooter, it's the most exotic collection of Glocks he's ever seen.

For the more unusual guns, I find that most dealers are just not willing to ship to CA. So a lot of what I buy is driven by what I can buy and not what I want to buy.

You do realize almost all the guns you have bought get a mag through them at the factory as a "function" test already right? So whats the point of putting 1 more mag through them if you arent going to shoot them?



Even at 750 per a gun, the 43 he bought only costs 32250. Still a lot of money but at the same time you wouldnt need a huge income to afford them either. Make 150k a year or so and be pretty easy to spend that much if you were single and this was your main hobby.

There have been many guns that are always factory tested that have been not able to fire properly for the end-user.

Difference in ammo is a key factor. Also as much as some factories claim it, the gun may have not gotten a 'full clip' (pun to piss magazine people off) through it, but just a single shot or two.

Also don't underestimate many 'gun-collectors' lose their inventory to 'theft' or just buy them for felons outright. It's a big business. Down here at the West Palm Beach Gun Show some dumbass was talking about it in a bathroom stall when ATF or Sheriffs were in the restroom taking a leak. The sad part is he was having his wife do this for him to begin with since he was a felon too.

At the one show he had bought over 20 weapons I believe....maybe more.

So, what you're telling me is, you went out of your way, to overpay for 8 glocks?

I would say he's banking on being able to resell them for big bucks in a few years. Considering that Ruger and S&W (maybe others?) totally dropped out of the CA market a few months ago due to the firing pin stamp nonsense, it's might have a good chance of paying off...

OTOH the process he's describing to "import" them to CA sounds a bit suspect IMO, so he might just end up in prison praying that he doesn't drop the soap...

This is precisely why no one is willing to sell to CA. If someone has a desirable or rare gun, then there are often multiple buyers. So they won't do anything that to them sounds shady even though it's actually legal. Then on top of that, good luck finding an FFL that can SSE something rare. I just spent over $1000 trying to SSE a .22LR handgun that can be bought everywhere else for $500 because .22 is difficult/impossible to SSE.

Personally I find that the factory is not always right. Plus, in order to bypass the 1 handgun every 30 days rule that CA has, I had to PPT a lot of guns. I like to check to make sure that someone didn't pass their problem gun onto me.

Also, I do actually shoot all of my pistols, but it might take a while before I get to some of them. It's not like I'll bring 70 handguns to the range every time. TBH, I am very backlogged though.

I own 13 guns and they are all different. Hell, I only have 4 that fire the same caliber bullet (2 that fire .44 Magnum and 2 that fire .45 ACP).

Picked up these two new Sigs. I'm not into blingy guns, but with that new law prohibiting German Sigs from being imported and the loss of SSE, beggars can't be choosers.

And Gold Teams are awesome. Not as classically-sexy; more robot-sexy. But shit it's a nice gun for the money (which is a lot, yeah, but it's like half the price of a Czechmate).

C-more or go home. No one seems to bother with anything else. I would say definitely avoid picatinny rails...adds height and less secure than a 'proper' mount. This is probably the definitive style mount for that gun:

About to purchase my first handgun. I liked shooting my friend's Sig P226 .40, so I figured I'd get that one. How is it as a beginner gun?

It's $960 at Turner's and comes with night sights. Does this sound like a good price?

I figured I'd get it and confirm I like it at the range, then by a couple more as backups since I would be familiar with it. Good idea or should I buy different guns?

Are there any accessories I should buy?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

It would be very hard to go wrong with a CZ 75 B. Used one at the range, high quality, very accurate, price is right.
