So it's been about a year since I started buying guns. I just negotiated for a S&W Model 41, which will the 49th handgun in my collection. Most of the guns I have are pretty pedestrian and often picked just to complete a lineup. For my 50th handgun, I'd like something special, so no more Glocks or M&Ps. Also, nothing that will require months or years to custom build. It should be somewhat available.

So what recommendations would you have?

Here's what I have now:

Beretta M9
Beretta M9A1
Beretta PX4 40 cal
Beretta PX4 9mm
CZ SP01
FN Five-Seven
FN FNS LS 9mm
Glock 17 Gen 3
Glock 17 Gen 3 OD
Glock 17 Gen 4
Glock 17 Gen 4 FDE
Glock 19 Gen 3
Glock 19 Gen 3 OD
Glock 19 Gen 4
Glock 19 Gen 4 FDE
Glock 22 Gen 2
Glock 22 Gen 3
Glock 23 Gen 4
Glock 26 Gen 3
Glock 27 Gen 3
Glock 34 Gen 3
Glock 35 Gen 4
HK 45
HK P2000
HK P30LS
HK USP 40
HK USP 9
Ruger Mark III Competition
Ruger SR1911
S&W M&P 22
S&W M&P 40
S&W M&P 40 Pro
S&W M&P 40c
S&W M&P 45
S&W M&P 9
S&W M&P 9 Pro
S&W M&P 9c
S&W M&P Shield 40
S&W M&P Shield 9
Sig Sauer 1911
Sig Sauer P226 Elite Dark
Sig Sauer P226 TacOps
Sig Sauer P226R
Springfield XDM 40
Springfield XDM 40 Competition
Springfield XDM 45 Competition
Springfield XDM 9 Competition
Walther P22

What I already plan on picking up sometime in the future and that I do not consider to be special:

HK USP 45
Sig Sauer 227
Walther PPQ 5"

Time to step up to the plate and get a real gun for home defense, i.e. a shotgun. Saiga 12 or VEPR 12 or Benelli M4 my friend.

I'm not a big .40 fan, so I would choose 9mm or .45ACP.

One other thing you may consider... is do you shoot a DA/SA automatic well. By that I mean what I feel is a squirrley trigger with a fair amount of takeup shooting SA (after the first DA round, depending on how you carry it.) I don't, so I stick with SA automatics like a 1911, the Browning HiPower, and the striker-fired Kahr. The Kahr has a longer trigger pull, but it is far smoother and linear compared to a DA/SA automatic trigger.

We have a range down in Plano that has something like 250 different pistols for rent... see if you are able to 'test drive' a pistol first before dropping all that coin on a pistol you may not like. I test fired the HK USP... a pistol I was very ready to like... and found out I can't shoot it worth a foop (trigger and safety problems based on the way I shoot a 1911.)

Bullet Trap? Great place if so. Agreed on the HK. I feel the same way with the Sigs though.

Because the MK2 is the greatest pistol ever made. Armor piercing, check. No collateral damage, check. Tumbling action of bullet blows huge holes in the body.

Any questions?

Still not easy to reload and the performance of the round is great in AP situations but beyond that....who cares? The gun is what, 16 years old? Only recently did FN let the patents on the round go. There's no good carry version of the gun...

So sure, it's pretty accurate. Rounds travel nice and fast. I'd never rely on it for SD though. Not unless I'm concerned about being attacked by perps wearing level 2/soft armor.

Give me a P90 SBR and I'll go around singing praises for 5.7...but I'll never sing its praises in a pistol platform.

Shotguns aren't accurate enough sometimes for HD. Sure, less effort needed to hit the target, but too easy to hit non-targets. Tons of people reach for M1 Carbines, AR15s (pistol or rifle) or regular handguns in SD situations.

When faced with the choice of buying one of two guns... get both.

That's the spirit!

I've been checking out the Gunvault quick access safes. I am seriously considering making a wall of those things.

Or would that be too much?

All those guns madoka, and you haven't shot a single bullet out of those AR-15s?

Actually I've shot three of my ARs. It's just that I don't have much incentive to shoot the rest because they're all pretty similar.

What makes you think I don't already have a ton of long guns? That's actually where the bulk my money went. But if I were to put up pics of all of my long guns, I'm afraid my house will get raided. Handguns all have to be registered in CA, so I don't mind talking about them. And for the record, I already own a Benelli M4.

Get a nice heirloom FN Hi Power (cast or forged, doesn't matter as long as you're using +P only in defense situations and not using ANY +P+)

Or for a classic, get a Winchester 1897 trench gun - I got a riot length 1897 and it's not only fun, but it looks great.

I'll add another vote to a Dan Wesson - my CCO is great.

Also, 50 guns in a year. Granted, many of them are the cheap glocks and M&Ps, but I wouldn't want that many if I could. I'd rather spend more per gun to get the nicer stuff.

Glocks are cheap now? :\ I don't see how a person can get a new Glock for less than $500, even from internet stores, after shipping and other fees such as back ground check.

Madoka needs to post a few pics of those guns and tell us whether they were new or used and any other extra on those guns. Gun porn FTW.

Why did he purchase same guns (different generation)?

Yeah, in CA the cheapest Glocks are going to usually run $600 after tax and fees. Gen 4 Glocks are $700 each because of SSE fees.

I've got some pics up in this thread. All guns were purchased new or like new. While I would have preferred just buying new, because of CA's 1 handgun per 30 day policy, I had to buy a lot of guns from other owners which doesn't count against the 1 in 30 rule.

I was just at the gun store recently and saw plenty of the smaller model Glocks for under 500.
Things like the 26, 27 and such.

Full size glocks were well above 500.

Wow. Some serious 'collecting' going on here. If I had tons of money, I might buy one 9mm Glock, just to have it. Maybe a couple M&P's.

To have SO MANY of those is just weird. And 'collecting' in this context is kinda of...'hoarding.' Cool it on the quantity and look for cooler stuff. No desire for vintage pistols? I'd surely have some old Colt revolvers, a vintage 1911, some old Soviet guns...anything old and neat.

Get a Steyr GB. That gun is pants-on-head retarded but it shoots great.

It's just a collection. I can see having a Glock 17 series of black, OD, and FDE. Like different calibers then you have the .40's and 45's as well. If you look at the P226/P229, if you wanted all the special variations of those you'd have a ton of money invested. If you have the money to blow why not. I whole heartedly agree in expanding that collection to older rarer guns rather than focusing on modern guns.

Oh, I totally get it. Especially as a person that love analysis...'okay, here's a 9mm Glock in three sizes...here's .40 in three sizes...let's compare and contrast.'

That just gets old quickly, is all. I wasn't trying to mock his collection of guns, just pointing out that none of them were truly 'collectible' in the typical sense. More of a Pokemon 'gotta catch em all' thing going on there. :D

OP, if you are avoiding older guns because you think the modern stuff is simply 'better' from an engineering, design, or build quality kind of standpoint...I would say give some old cheap stuff a try. You obviously have a bit o' disposable income, and it's hard to lose money on guns, anyhow...so buy something that seems wacky and contrary to your tastes. You might end up liking it. Here are some random suggestions for stuff that is pretty cheap and plentiful:

An old Colt wheelgun. Any of them. They are very impressive pieces of engineering...I've not shot any newer revolvers that have the same feel of precise function.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Official_Police

I like those the best, because it's an affordable, high-quality, typically post-war gun. But it still has that cowboy SAA feel. The 'Police Positive,' often incorrectly called a 'Police Special,' would be the other common ex-cop revolver.

You've got a proper metal-framed CZ. Otherwise I'd recommend some guns in that lineage. Say you wanted another CZ design, though, and you wanna go for more cool and unusual...look for a .41AE Jericho.

For more Rusky and/or East European action, try a CZ-83 or a Makarov. If there was a Russian James Bond, he'd totally carry a CZ-83. :D

Speaking of James Bond- any interest in suppressors? I fear recommending them, as it kinda feel like offering meth to a coke addict. Or something. You may end up liking them and getting into a serious suppressor habit, is what I mean. :awe:

I don't see any threaded barrels in your collection, but I'd start with a .45ACP, regardless. Easiest to suppress. I think your full-size USP can be 'tacticalized' with just a barrel swap. Should still cycle fine.

We live in CA, no >10 round magazines or NFA items. Bullet buttons on all of our long guns with pistol grips.

You have no idea how badly I want a 7.62 suppressor for my bolt gun that I could also slap on a 5.56 in a pinch.

Congrats on the M4, even though the VEPR is better. Still a great shotgun. That's fine, list all of the "long guns" that you have then. You don't have to take pics, and why would anyone care about how many shotguns you have? It's America, not Britain.

Have you seen the oil filter suppressors? Not sure if they make them for 7.62's like the SKS but it should be available.

Really? Brand new and latest generation (Gen 4) Glocks for less than $500?

I purchased a brand new Gen4 G26 just a couple months ago and it was over $500 before taxes/fees.

Yea...prices on those aren't usually YMMV. Even a "little Glock" like a 26 is $550 plus tax. Hell even Buds has them at right about $500 plus shipping and FFL charges.

Shorty must have gotten into the dirty pirate hooker crack again.
