I just went to EB to buy it, They had plenty in stock.
But the dumbasses wouldnt let me buy it :|.
I am 17 and I have bought a TON of games from them that were mature, and i cany buy this one WTF!!!!.
I can go see R rated movies by myself legally but i can buy a friggin video game.

This is one game actually worth buying. Too bad so many warez kiddies are too lazy to get a job and buy it for themselves.

Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. I've never cared that much for console games (in fact, even though I own a playstation controller, I don't own a playstation
) However, in games that involve driving or sports, I've found something with a wheel-doohickey to be far superior to using the arrow keys on my keyboard.Undernet #warez-central

I just picked it up, too. And just finished installing and went to play... all the menu text is replaced by rectangles! Anyone else have this problem? I'm running XP Pro.

I am having the same problem with the text as retangular blocks as well. I just installed it here at work to try it out. I am running XP on this machine as well. And while I do have DirectX8.1 installed on this machine, the graphics card is not DirectX8.1 compatible. It's only compatible up to 7.0. I think that may be the problem. The card is a Geforce2 MX400. I have pretty much the same setup at home, so I'll see if it works when I get home around 5:45. I'll followup with results. In any case, I have a Geforce3 Ti200 coming my way tomorrow, so we'll see if that works if the Geforce2 MX400 doesn't work. What's your setup? Anyone else?

One more note. I do have a multiple partition setup, so I'll try loading the game on 98 if it does work. That should let me know if it's the OS or the Card.

I figured out how to fix the problem. It's in the readme under the Troubleshooting section. There's a URL to a Microsoft download page for some D3D dll that needs to be fixed. Just download that and run it. It fixed the problem for me. I'm using a GeForce2 Ti

I've played for about an hour now, I guess. I only played it once on PS2, so I can't really compare to that. I just installed WinXP last night, and I haven't beaten my gamepad into working just yet (Windows recognizes it and says the D-pad works, but GTA doesn't yet, for some reason - not sure why), so I was playing with the mouse and keyboard. It works all right. The mouse is really used only when you're on foot.
The graphics looks pretty sharp and the sound is also good. As can be expected, you can put your own MP3s into the game and listen to those rather than the somewhat cheesy music that comes with the game. One of my friends who also bought the game says that you don't have to put the actual MP3s in the music directory, just shortcuts, which was a good idea for Rockstar to do.
As far as gameplay, it's basically everything I was expecting and hoping it would be. Like I said, I can't compare to the PS2 version, but if you've played that, I'm sure that this is very similar, perhaps graphically enhanced. With the little time I've played so far, I can definitely say that I recommend the game.

The game is 50 bucks and I wanna buy it, but then I don't wanna lose out on a deal. Does anyone know if Best Buy or something will have a rebate or anything this sunday? If they just reduce the price, I can get a pricematch, but if they do like free t-shirt thing, can I still get it if I buy it today?

I bought my copy at Electronics Boutique for $50. I think there's a $10 gift certificate or rebate or something that I can mail in from EB. I don't know if there will be any sales this weekend. Maybe check around in Hot Deals and see if anyone has posted the copy of the ad from next week? If you buy it now, you probably won't be able to get a T-shirt or whatever they offer, if they offer anything at all.
