Has anyone on the East Coast been able to pick up GTA3 for PC this morning? I am hoping it is out, as both EBWorld and Gamestop indicated it would ship today.
 
i thought it was scheduled for sale on the 21st. shipping dates dont mean squat...remember the ATI Radeon deal? "NOW SHIPPING" still tooke 8 weeks for people to get their product.
 
ummm....maybe I'm a bit confused, but hasn't GTA3 been out ever since PS2 has been released??

GTA3 for the PC... higher resolution, better controls (for me, anyway), more gore (according to IGN), and future multiplayer I believe.

GameSpy has put up a nice GTA3 preview under its E3 coverage section. There's a whole bunch of pretty screenshots, and some new information.

Interesting quotes:
"According to the publisher, mod and level creators will have an easy time creating additions to the game. Although it is not officially supported, anyone that's familiar with Renderware should be able to concoct something fairly quickly."
So modding is not supported, but he makes it sound so easy. We shall see.

"You can change the appearance of the main character by creating a 256 x 256 bitmap file divided into six panels, each corresponding to a different section of the body. Not only do you see the skin during gameplay, but in cutscenes as well."
Well now we have an idea of how the skinning will work.

"Many PC gamers anxious to play this game were a bit disappointed when they learned that it will not include a multiplayer mode. [...] It was also implied that the company will not be releasing a multiplayer patch in the future, but would rather have the next game in the series designed with a multiplayer component from the start."
So the next GTA3 game will be built on multiplayer? Superb!

So, no multiplayer expected in a patch or add-on but definite multiplayer in the sequel. 🙁

Cant wait to get my grubby hands on this from BB on wednesday. I was gonna buy it from EB or Gamestop since they are probably gonna sell it today or tomorrow, but I have a 20% off coupon for BB from PCG. 😀
 
recommended specs on the game aren't all that high... prolly thanks to the PS2's limited texturing abilities.

I've been waiting for this game to come out for months! I'll be getting it when it comes out. I've never played it but it sounds good and everyone seems to love it. For those of you who have played it, what are your favorite things about the game?
 
What kind of controller are you guys gonna play this with? I'm thinking about getting an adapter that will let me connect my playstation controller to a usb port, but I don't want some hack POS that won't work properly.

If anyone can recommend a good brand, please enlighten me.

Actually, it ships today and is released tomorrow. The sites saying it is out today were misinformed. There are threads at Blues and VE detailing that today is merely the shipping date, and that it will be sold tomorrow (although lucky small shops may get them today and start selling early).

I talked to the manager at the local Software Etc and he said that it gets released tommrow.He also mentioned it *MIGHT* be in transit right now to the store and might arrive this afternoon. He said i should give a call back later on tonight to see if they got it in. Who knows. i might be the lucky ones to get my copy of GTA3 early. =)
