How did this get out of QA? This makes most sh!tty console ports look GLORIOUS. And to think I bought two fvcking copies.

lol

As far as I'm concerned, the GTA series has always been good for about 3 hours of gameplay - once you get bored of driving around a crashing into sh*t, it's time to go home. I got that out my system in GTA 3, so I've never had an interest in any of the Grand Theft Auto games.

And yeah, it looks horrible. The original Half-Life looked better than this, and it was nothing amazing in its day.

on another gaming note, check out the Batman Begins video game.
i know most of us cringe at the thought of a Batman game (the last good one being for NES).
but this is worth playing.

 to PC publishers (and in some cases developers) for rushing hack-jobs out the door and relying on downloadable patches to make their games usable.

And yes, I realize that console developers have the luxury of a closed hardware platform to simplify their testing, but some of these PC bugs have nothing to do with hardware and are simply inexcusable in my opinion.

Really?? its good?? It kinda looks sorta Splinter Cell-ish from the trailers that I've seen of it. How does it look and play like??

As for other Batman games..the good ones in my opinion include:

Batman -NES
Batman - Genesis
Batman: Animated Series - SNES
Batman Returns for SNES was ok..kinda sloppy but looks and sounds nice.

...damn..is that it?? I did like the racing stages of the Sega CD Batman Returns but the action stages were crap.

EA has done things FAR worse than Rockstar ever will. They just know their audience. Its about installed units, and the PS2 is STILL the most common piece of game hardware in the majority of homes today.

This game is fine, if people pass it up just because they read the inital post and no others, then its your loss.

Man, I haven't seen "jaggies" that bad in a game since the days of Quake 2 engine! Doesn't turning AA on help at ALL?

Oh, and speaking as someone who did QA work for a game company... Trust me, they KNEW about most of the bugs in the product when they decided to ship it. When a game starts falling behind schedule, all of the lower priority bugs start being ignored in order to meet the ship date. Only the really BIG bugs like "The install program corrupts system files in the x version of Windows", and "Loading the game with x video card causes the computer to BSOD" end up getting fixed before the game ships.

The x800 ATI seems to "cater" to this game well. I don't see a reason for all the complaints. If you liked gta3 and vc, this game is worth picking up.

That's only half of it though, the other half is that the game was developed for 5 year old hardware.

GTA3 was an awful port. My 9800pro can barely handle it in 800x600 - keep in mind this game was designed for a ps2, which is roughly as old as the pyramids in Egypt. I'm not the only one; others with similar systems get the same thing. Those with current generation video cards report that it runs ok though. Vice City was a good port, but only a port; it offered nothing out of the box that the ps2 didn't offer, other than the ability to go higher than 640x480 and use your own mp3s rather than the built in radio stations (they did a great job with music selection though, and having grown up in the 80s, I never felt the need to use that :p). It runs great though; the 9800p can push it in 16x12 no problem. The hope was that SA would both run well and bring extras to the table.

...what the heck? My geforce2 pro ran that game just fine :p

though on second thought, the other ppl posting no problems w/gta3 were also running nvidia...

Turning on AA helps the jaggies; it just runs obscenely slow on the 9600P. The XT and 9800P like AA (Though alt-tabbing is impossible with AA enabled)

Your right too, get a descent graphics card, maybe a descent comp aswell EyeMWing, i'm sure this will run fine on my X800XT 3.2ghz p4

Some people don't have $1500 to throw down every 9 months. I'm one of those people. Every 2 or 3 years, I invest in stuff as close to the cutting edge as I can. An X800 isn't in that range. "High end" graphics cards never will be. I've had this 9600P for YEARS, and ATI/NV is *YET* to release anything affordable that beats it. kthx.

And since it's all about "installed units", there are a SHITLOAD more GFFX/R9x00 series boards out there than there are 6x00 and Xx00.

At the moment, we're a little over halfway through the game's story (50 missions so far), and there's barely been a bad mission in the bunch. link

Having played through the entire game on PS2. I find it a shame that several people will not buy the game based on what you've stated, since I consider it an extremely fun game.

I played through the entire game on the PS2, too. My thoughts on this are that everyone without a 9c video card got completely shafted. - The only decent SS' I've seen belong to them. Of course, the people that took screens with their 9c video cards don't focus on the crappy things that I picked out; instead, they have AA cranked up (which helps a lot in removing the jaggies that, admittedly, are because of my card) and avoid the problem areas.

I'm 18. Getting a serious job right now is
A) Difficult
B) A mistake

And 1 gen back isn't "old slow POS." There's life outside nerddom, and most people live there.

During that gen, I sold a lot of computers. I was LUCKY if I could push most of those people into a 9200LE. These people are the kind of people in SA's target audience - 14-17 year old kids. And they *ALL* still have the same computer, with the same R8500-series graphics, putting them 2 gens back, but still the predominant target audience.

Anybody who couldn't control the helicopter is a loser.

It takes about 5 minutes of playing with the controls to set it up so you can fly that thing with absolute ease.

maybe they'll release a patch?
i rem they did for the first GTA 3 PC port. it was notoriously buggy with really bad framerates.
