Oh, and speaking as someone who did QA work for a game company... Trust me, they KNEW about most of the bugs in the product when they decided to ship it. When a game starts falling behind schedule, all of the lower priority bugs start being ignored in order to meet the ship date. Only the really BIG bugs like "The install program corrupts system files in the x version of Windows", and "Loading the game with x video card causes the computer to BSOD" end up getting fixed before the game ships.

yes there are no jaggies on my rig at all on this game...
his card and PC suck...

Jaggies are removed by turning on 3xAA - which makes the game unplayably slow on my 9600P. Poor design choice; probably. Bug; no.

I agree, my 9600 Pro runs pretty much anything at a decent resolution

The only reason for getting anything faster (for me, anyway) is if I get an LCD screen and want to run it at native.

Yes... I believe it was v1.1.

i have to agree, tho, gfx look under par. (dont have the game yet but looked at the SSs :)

It just p****s me off because i am one of the idiots spending lots of $$$ for a high-end PC w/ $400 or more gfx card to have th "latest".....and i KNOW that some titles can be (graphically) outstanding...HL2, D3 etc.

If someone releases a title which loks like it was coded 1995 this makes me just very ANGRY. This looks (in part) like a DX7 title.

Dont get me wrong...i STILL play VC on my system (MTA that is)..and SA might even be a good game when the rest is right....but they could've done MUCH better for the visuals

hint: so are 99,9% of ALL games.

Even HL2 etc. couldv'e been a tad better here and there.

Name me one game (D3 ???) which takes really advantage of current gen (X850XT, 6800 U etc.) cards.

Engines are always compatible with 5 year old tech because we "geeks" with the gih-end stuff are a minority !

get a job.. 450 bucks is small time these days...

i spend more than that a week on hookers and booze.

I have not and will never spend $450 for video card. I certainly can if I so please, but my money's better spent on other things. As the OP has mentioned, I try to get a reasonable card that will last me 2 years or so.

It sounds as though you're just loaded with money. I may be wrong, but based on your spelling and grammar skills displayed in this thread (and many others), I highly doubt you're pulling much of a salary to be buying $450 video cards at the drop of a hat.

Maybe it's Mom and Dad's money?

yes of course it does. i have NO reason to believe that game wont run on my card with 6xAA and decent FPS...but then if it REALLY would be NVidia optimzied i REALLY would have a reason not to buy this.

"High end" graphics cards never will be. I've had this 9600P for YEARS, and ATI/NV is *YET* to release anything affordable that beats it. kthx.

And since it's all about "installed units", there are a SHITLOAD more GFFX/R9x00 series boards out there than there are 6x00 and Xx00.

You are YEARS behind current tech...my 9800 times are even LONG ago so i dont even want to know how a 9600 would be.

Dont get me wrong..this not meant as insult or showing off e-penises or whatsoever - just to hint to you that it (maybe) was a bad idea to state an opinion based on your hardware ! ESPECIALLY if it WOULD be the case that higher end cards would produce better gfx (Which i still dont know)...but it looks like some people say it DOES.

I wouldnt write a HL2/D3 review based on a 9600 either etc....

And yeah, it looks horrible. The original Half-Life looked better than this, and it was nothing amazing in its day.

these games are SO on a totally different level.

HL2 *was* amazing, i agree. But then it also was repetive.

VC was IMHO the king of all games THE TIME WHEN IT CAME OUT....and i still play MT:VCA TODAY and enjoy multiplayer and the whole VC 80s atmosphere and everything. Gfx are WAY below HL but then it has other elements which STILL amaze me up to this day !

VC was, NOT WITHOUT A REASON, the most selling game ever (AFAIK).

Not even close. I guarantee you that the Sims outsold it.

hl2 runs fine on my 9800pro-xt. so did GTA3 and VC. 2 cycles back is not OLD tech unfortunately. If only it were we could have ps3 graphics today. i am considering upgrading very soon, but a the majority of the PC market wouldn't.
the older tech, low res, non AA of lower end cards will always make a game look worse. but for a game based on old technology like this i don't see why it would be such a strain. i have a feeling a patch will be released in a few months. I might check out SA when i get bored with BF2.

i think its the fact he has his settings turned down. it'd look magnificent on late model cards (ati x800s, nvidia 6800 series)

VC the most selling game ever? It might be because it was spread over PC, PS2, and xbox(?)...and maybe more...I can say with certainty that it wasn't because of graphics cuz they even sucked back then and my geforce 2 gts at the time played the game just fine.
It's all about gameplay. Kids like beating up old ladies in the street and running over hookers. Blowing up cop cars with the rocket launcher is fun, too. :D

All runs well on my 9800 pro. I've had this card for two years now, and don't see any reason for an upgrade in the near future. Simply one of the best cards ever made, imo.

Certainly one of the best selling, too, I imagine.

What spec's are you playing SA with the 9800 Pro?

I'm 18. Getting a serious job right now is
A) Difficult
B) A mistake

And 1 gen back isn't "old slow POS." There's life outside nerddom, and most people live there.

During that gen, I sold a lot of computers. I was LUCKY if I could push most of those people into a 9200LE. These people are the kind of people in SA's target audience - 14-17 year old kids. And they *ALL* still have the same computer, with the same R8500-series graphics, putting them 2 gens back, but still the predominant target audience.[/quote]

They care less about the predominant audience.. its all about money... games drive the hardware trade... Nvidia/ATI sells cards when people like you buy a game and it doesnt run on thier POS compaq or Dell default video forcing the user to buy hardware..
why do you think the vid card companies now endorse certain games.
its all money...

and who says im just a geek... I spend alot on all my toys.. bikes cars etc...

Here, I turned the ONE setting that I had turned down up. Same. Fvcking. Thing. Less jaggies, but I *KNEW* why they were there.

Also, I'm YET to see one X800 or 6800 screenshot showing the same thing that I've shown. Someone with an X800 or 6800, go find an ambulance and tell me there's not something wrong. Then look closer at the other vehicles. And take a screenshot.

And then blow up a car, and take a screenshot.

PC, b'c you have a 6800GT, it's a little faster than my x800 pro, you'll get 16x12 easily and smoothly with max draw distance.
