I like the game so far. I have played it for about 2 hours total. I like how you are a black dude in this one. It's nice to see they went back to the gang storyline from GTA1 and GTA2. You weren't even in a gang in GTA3 and VC. It looks a little worse than I expected, but it still looks a hell of a lot better than what those first post screenies are.

Wow! I bought it a couple days ago for PC. Sure the GFX could be better, but damn this game is fun!

Stop whining about how it looks, just enjoy the game!

oh yeah....

The random crashes seem to occur to people using Onboard AC 97 sound (myself included). There is no know fix at this time , but some people have had some success with updated drivers and turning down the sound acceleration in dxdiag.

It's a fun game. The engine is really crappy. Looks like a 1991 virtual reality demo. Anyway, since I found the old school East Cost hip-hop station, I'm happy.

I tried the realtek drivers and they did stop the crashes, but now I lose sound ever once in a while. *sigh* looks like ill have to wait for the patch. :(

My mobo is Shuttle Nforce2 A35N Ultra with Realtek ALC650, 5.1 channel audio

I've spent the last two hours playing this game and it ran smooth as silk for me on a 9800Pro at 1280x1024x32. Rest of system is a P4 3.06 with 1 gig RAM. No lockups, no issues at all.

Very much what I expected the game to be after the first two. The controls are a little different but you can't expect the controls to always be identical. Not wild about the mouse controlling the view when driving but got used to that too.

This game looks a lot better than the OP makes it out to be.
Overall, if you liked the first two then you should like this just as much if not more because you can drive for what seems like hours and never see the same street twice.

Affected system is nForce2 using the Realtek/Soundstorm chip.

Unaffected chip is nForce2 using the Realtek/Soundstorm chip (same mobo, A7n8x Dlx) and another unaffected system is K8T800 with some SoundMAX chip, and another unaffected system is nForce3 with SoundMAX chip.

*shrug* Doesn't look like audio or chipset issues to me.

GTA3 was an awful port. My 9800pro can barely handle it in 800x600 - keep in mind this game was designed for a ps2, which is roughly as old as the pyramids in Egypt. I'm not the only one; others with similar systems get the same thing. Those with current generation video cards report that it runs ok though. Vice City was a good port, but only a port; it offered nothing out of the box that the ps2 didn't offer, other than the ability to go higher than 640x480 and use your own mp3s rather than the built in radio stations (they did a great job with music selection though, and having grown up in the 80s, I never felt the need to use that :p). It runs great though; the 9800p can push it in 16x12 no problem. The hope was that SA would both run well and bring extras to the table.

GTA3 is the worst port. Even as I upgraded to a new system with 6600gt and A64 3200+ @2600Mhz it still stutters. Vice City was much better, and I expected a lot from the GTA:SA port as you did. They took their sweet time about it, and they could have made it a really good game.

After playing through to the end of San Fierro, there have been roughly half a dozen re-balances or minor tweaks or new features that I've spotted. None really affect the gameplay, except that Zero's missions are now winnable without spending 48 hours beating your brains out over them (partially due to non-suck input devices, partially due to the fact that they actually made them easier. For example, Zero's second mission, where you would normally be critically low on fuel the entire damn time, I had enough fuel to LEARN TO FLY THE DAMN THING, kill everybody, and get back to land with TONS to spare.

GTA:SA for PC is just the next iteration in the rich tradition of Halo PC and Deus Ex: Invisible War

THOU SHALT NOT MENTION THAT ATROCITY! It never existed. Deus Ex is the ONE AND THE ONLY. There was no sequel. There never will be a sequel. No other game has ever used the name "Deus Ex." No other game will use the name "Deus Ex." IF I DENY IT, IT NEVER HAPPENED!

We all have that voice inside us, but don't worry. Soon you'll learn that it's far more constructive to turn your disappointment into something positive, like a smoldering undying rage directed at Harvey Smith.

Except that Halo has always sucked, PC or X-Box.

Let's avoid derailing this thread into a "who likes Halo" conversation.

Regardless of whether or not you enjoyed the game, it's demonstrable that Halo for PC is much worse than Halo for XBox. Controls, graphics, etc.

i am playing a few hours now. My config is a A643500+, Audigy2 and X850XT

Settings: 1280x1024, AAx6, all at max.

I have to agree that the engine looks dated, but there is SLIGHT improvement over VC on same places, cars DO have reflections. (Not always, you are right).

Cut scenes are HORRuBLE, character design looks like 15 year old standard...textures could be MUCh better in general etc.

But neverthless the game is fun. The world SEEMS richer than in VC and more detailed.

BIGGEST PROBLEM....random crashes...still tweaking my PC for stability...so i cant say if its on SA's side or my machine :)

Overall: GOOD game, but no match for HL2/D3 style visuals..AT ALL.....its a "GOOD" game which is kind of 10 years behind.
I dont REALLY see any difference in the engine etc. compared to VC which is a shame....seems they SLIGHTLY improved the engine and added story and modelling...but they could've done much better.

i bought the game, and have to admit it's as buggy as hell, in certain areas of the map i can use the mouse look and look directly down, and the road texture disappears. the rain effect is awful, and generally the graphics are p!ss poor

The only problem I have with them using a black lead is that almost ALL the other characters that played important roles were black too, like blacks and whites can't get along or something.

There were a few white people, don't misunderstand me, but certainly they could have done a better job. One of my older friends (30) said that he could see potential lawsuits coming from the way it portrayed black people as a whole and my dad (55) made several comments about how they sure didn't go out of their way to make them look intelligent.

I dunno, it's just a game where you're a thug, and thugs aren't exactly intelligent. GREAT game although the Zero side missions fvcking blow.

i have to say one thing, tho.

They did a GREAT job with VC to get the 80s and Florida flair done.

They also did a GREAT job with SA to get the flair of being in da hood...and you are really scared when you hear a car coming, scared of them doing a drive-by or similiar. The gfx might be sh*tty but the game's atmosphere is deep. IMHO.

Same here... I've been getting a crash, and consequently a VPU recovery screen, every 15 minutes or so.
