Game is 60GB o_O

Precisely why I'm buying the DVD version. Way faster to install then downloading it, twiddling thumbs, unpacks and installs, still twiddling, finally patches itself with a Day 1 5GB patch most like, STILL twiddling, before you can finally play it.

60GB? That's still a lot of DVD-swapping. Setting it up to download overnight is a lot less manual labor.

That said, will they offer a PC version on Blu-Ray disc? (50GB per disc, two discs)

Blu-ray? I doubt it. Very few people have Blu-ray drives in their PCs. Even most people with high-end gaming rigs opt out of using Blu-ray; in fact, if you read up on enthusiast PC building communities (such as this one), many people are skipping optical drives altogether to save money. I suspect this is the reason why there are no PC games being distributed on Blu-ray yet. Not enough penetration in the desktop computer demographic. (And yet, the XBO and PS4 use Blu-Ray as their main distribution medium. There's one place where consoles are actually ahead of PC. Imagine that.)

People are freaking out about the 65GB install size, but keep in mind: Install size is NOT the same thing as download size. The download will most likely be compressed (hopefully under 50GB, maybe even around ~40GB), and then when the download completes, it will decompress to a full 65GB.

I don't think blu-ray makes sense, as has been said, few people even bother with one in their PCs. I have one in our HTPC for obvious reasons, but my gaming PC doesn't even have an optical drive of any sort.

Given enough time I wonder if we'll see retail boxed games come on a USB drive rather than optical discs. They are probably getting near cheap enough for it to be a viable means of doing it.

As much as I would love that, its going to be a while. Given the size of games a 64gb USB would be required and those are still too expensive.

I hope the pricing does come down though.

Hope your right, without throttling my download speeds on Steam the game could easily take 19 hours to download. So glad there's a week to pre-load this thing.

Wonder how many DVDs it will be. I suppose they will be DL? If so then anything from 5 to 7 maybe?

Also, I hope the framerate is unlocked. The exiting thing is how low the minimum framerate is. If it's 70+ on my system then I can enjoy butter smooth flicker free CRT motion on my new Benq XL2411Z with Benq Blur Reduction. Should be marvellous. :)

Started my pre-load today capped at 128 kbps. Should be done in a week and won't hog any bandwidth! Thankfully I have unlimited usage....

Reads as 59GB full download on Steam for me.

DVD-DL (which most of the fatter games I bought use) would be around 8GB a DVD, so after compression, 5 or 6 DVDs. Hmmm, must be a fat case.

Got mine capped at 256kbps.Will enable higher speeds in the evening when i go to bed.:) I top out usually about 1.3mbps.Speeds are jumping all over, but i guess there must be just so many people downloading this at once as well.

Shouldn't take any longer then 72 hours if that at this speed.

If I were a Gamestop exec, I'd reach out to Steam/EA/Blizzard/etc. and investigate the viability of creating an in-store kiosk where customers can plug in their own USB stick and copy an install package for a PC game over to to the stick to take home and install onto their computers. From Gamestop's perspective, you probably could increase foot traffic into your stores this way from PC gamers. Cost-wise, you could probably implement a cheap kiosk using an Android-based tablet/touch screen connected to a usb hub and a usb hard drive with all the install packages.

With my internet connection it's faster to download it than use the disks.

I did kinda like the Tennis mini game but it needed some reward, leveling..something.

You do get reward. You have various ability stats that go up when you do activities. Stamina, flying, driving etc all get better the more you do it. Tennis helps your strength so you can run longer.

The Golf mini-game is surprisingly good too.

I am currently preloading the game through steam. 59GB download, I am throttling the download to 7MB/s (full speed on my connection is about 10.5MB/s) and it will take about 2.5 hours.

I think Amazon screwed up. It let me download the game today and it is installing right now. For a while, the Amazon page said the release date was April 7th (says 14th again now). Let's see if it works... about 80% installed right now.

Well, it seemed to install. It asked for my key and made me make a "social club" account, downloaded a 50MB patch but now it's downloading another 5GG!@? Not waiting up for that. Good night.

Do you have to pre-order to pre-load through Steam? I want to start the download, but I'm not pre-ordering at this point.

Bummer. Follow up question; I don't have 60 GB free on my SSD where Steam is installed (to say nothing of the 120 you apparently need to verify all the files during unpacking/installation). Can I download it to a separate directory on a different drive? I've only ever used Steam Mover for that and it doesn't work with pre-loaded content.

steam has worked on multiple drives for awhile now, very simple to set up a steam folder on any drive you want. SSD or HDD.

Does it require moving everything or can you pick and choose which files (games) to put where? I still want certain things to run off the SSD but larger games or games I don't play regularly are fine on my larger storage disc.

You can have as many steam libraries as you want, i currently have 3. 2 on SSDs 1 on an HDD.
