She knows more then the current President. Trump denies climate change as a hoax, meanwhile his lawyers in court plead for waivers on his golf clubs due to climate change effects.

Knowing that I'll let you tell us Trump is so much smarter then Greta

You guys should seriously seek mental help. Our president is overall no genius, but comparing a billionaire to someone that hasn't even graduated high school is just shear insanity. Seek mental help. You are living proof of the democratic party going down the shitter. You could easily bounce-back from Trump and win - but because of people like you that ignore reality, you will lose from your own self-ignorance.

He might be socially retarded, but his overall thought process is more in-depth than you realize. Is he an evil genius? Of course not, he's a dumbass plenty of times.... But is he dumb enough to think veganism can save the world? Nope. Does he understand more about general economics? Absolutely.

You guys really should consider pulling your heads out of eachother's arses. It will really help you if you plan to ever win elections.

There is a reason children aren't allowed to make major decisions, drive cars, vote, drink, run for office, the list goes on and on.
Greta has been taught that the world is ending, that she has no future, and I think that's a little sad. Why pile that on a kid? Do you think her speech at the UN made a difference? Do you think millions of people suddenly changed their minds because they were lectured by a little girl?

I have nothing against her, but shoving her into the limelight was a publicity stunt. If she's lucky she'll parlay that into a career as an activist, if not she'll fade into the dustbin of history. Until then, she'll be subject to ridicule by her detractors. No kid should have to go through that.

She is changing peoples' minds, but not in the way that you might think. As in, she isn't fixing climate change, but she is making the climate change deniers look really really bad. While ironically, the controversy generated by the climate change deniers' negative reaction is a greater contributor to her limelight status than any amount of shoving anyone may have done.

But hey, don't let me stop you from apologizing for abhorrent behavior using blame-the-victim logic.

Is this a parody post? The guy is a billionaire because he inherited his money, not because he made it. There’s a decent chance that had he simply placed his inheritance in an index fund he would be worth more than what he is now. Imagine thinking someone who worked his whole life only to lose money was someone to listen to

As far as economics goes, his knowledge appears to be of literal negative value. Ie: worse than if he made decisions just by flipping coins. For example he thinks trade deficits mean we are losing money to other countries, which caused him to launch his disastrous trade wars. (By the way, notice how China hasn’t surrendered yet?)

The idea that the Democrats will win only if they embrace dumb and obviously wrong ideas is not only ridiculous if it were true then it doesn’t matter if they win anyway because then no matter what we have team stupid in charge.

Also, animal agriculture is a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Not nearly as much as fossil fuels, but still very significant. She’s absolutely right that this could be a big help in hitting our targets.

Sure Trump knows so much about economics he denies the effects of climate change on the world economy. Go ahead keep telling yourself how great Trump is.

One advantage Greta has in being so young, she hasn't been around long enough to become such a scumbag. Clearly age breeds asshole

Sure:

The willfully ignorant (you many times by your own admission here) refuse to learn regardless of the source.
That's an answer. It has nothing to do with the topic at hand or my statements, but it's definitely an answer to something.

If you can step back and look at your posts on this subject and honestly self reflect you might figure how it is exactly on point and how you are the problem not her.

I'd recommend you do the same. I never said she was the problem. I feel she's being used and that it's detrimental to her. It's also my opinion that most adults aren't all that receptive to being lectured by children.

Projection. A wise man understands that he can't see everything, and it's possible that a child unencumbered by life might see things better than themselves.

Such as the fact we're setting the planet on fire as a result of centuries of mismanagement, and the next generation might be the last (or at least the last of modern civilization).

Perhaps Trump will have another fake cover printed out to soothe his fragile ego.

It's ridiculous that we as a society can't even take some freaking baby steps towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Just curious what exactly you have done personally? It's easy to say America needs to do this blah blah.

I've done things to change my consumption of non-renewable things. Try to cut down in single use plastics. Replace household devices with more energy efficient options. The proverbial reuse/reduce/recycle mantra. People like Greta, have helped me become aware of the changes I can make to help things. However, most everyone knows that the changes on a personal level are hardly even going to make a scratch in the big problem which is corporations and their waste and for that matter corporations not being required (by law) to curtail their waste and gluttony of the environment. So I'm thankful for Greta and those that came before and will come after her for being a voice for me, for others and for the Earth to speak directly to these people that can actually make a difference by enforcing and/or enacting stricter rules.

Kids aren't supposed to talk about it. Celebrities aren't supposed to talk about it. I'm wondering exactly who the ones that are approved to talk about it should be and where they get their credentials approved from....

I got beat up over a similar comment last year when she came over in the solar powered racing schooner thing.

She has Right point, she is the wrong messenger

Got it - so you haven't done shit. Why aren't you biking to work daily? Why aren't you REFUSING to buy products that are in non-recyclable or non-compostable materials? Why are you still driving an SUV gas guzzler? Are you ensuring that every single thing you dispose of is recycled properly (Alkaline batteries, Li-Ion batteries, Old PC parts, cables, plastic bags, light bulbs, etc.)?

But but I NEED it! WAAAAAAAAAAH!

I didn't list EVERYTHING I do.

And for what it's fucking worth, I do ride mass transit (city bus) to and from work every day for the past 10+ years. In addition, in the summer (it sort of gets cold here in WI during the winter) I do ride my bike to/from work some days. I often walk to the grocery store and other local businesses as well.

Jesus fucking Christ. Your hyperbole is ridiculous.

You failed to comment on the crux of my post that while individual lifestyle changes can help, the amount of help is woefully insignificant to some simple rules and regulations that can be placed on corporations.

But....but....you wear shoes when walking, they have rubber and that uses carbon to produce

That's because the crux of the problem isn't corporations. It's individuals. Individuals are exactly what the corporations determine to do.

Until individuals can systemically commit to what they preach, nothing will change. Period. People don't NEED gas guzzlers - but they are selling like hot cakes. People CAN take public transit but choose not to.

Also in a lot of states you can choose your electric provider - and some of them commit to 100% renewable energy while others dont.

I've generally found that people who are opposed to the entire concept will find any convenient excuse to rationalize the messenger as flawed. They're too young, they're on the take from big climate, they're hypocrites because they exist, etc.

It's a dodge of the real issue which they are unwilling to honestly confront.

The issue is systemic, meaning individual actions are unlikely to make any meaningful impact.

And the greatest systemic issue is that we are essentially trapped in our existing infrastructure. Changing that will not be easy, especially when much of the logic against such change is hardly any different than saying we were wealthier when our main energy source was firewood, but change will occur.
But at the same time, that change will not occur by using your own grocery bags, or by living like monks who've taken a vow of poverty. All that does is perpetuate that false myth that combatting climate change will make people poorer, when in fact, as system-changers like Elon Musk are demonstrating, it will make us wealthier.

Even though my personal actions are not relevant, I've done things like pay for 100% renewable power, limit my driving, use programmable thermostats and only turn on heat/cooling when actually needed, walk or bike places, etc... But me individually doing those things doesn't stop my fellow idiot citizens from buying gas guzzling vehicles they really don't need, doesn't stop companies from fracking or letting methane leak into the air, and so on.

This is not a problem that one person can fix. It requires collective action and actual power of government to force change. So yes, it is a problem of "America needs to do blah blah blah".
